Nebraska is running around $350-400 from Newark right now leaving Thursday and coming home Sunday. Mapquest has it at just over 19 hours and 1280 miles.

I just realized we have enough points to fly there and back so I'm thrilled.

When the Nebraska folks would ask @RUScrew85 where Rutgers was he kept telling them: take Route 80 east for 20 hours, turn right on 287 and get off the road at Piscataway

May go to TTFP, but will have to stay in Pittsburgh. You can't find a hotel within 100 miles of State College on game day.

Yes, I don't want to buy anything, or stay in, that town.

Last time I stayed in Danville. Typically just over an hour away east down I-80. But on game day to avoid the highway traffic I took all back roads through Lewisburg, Mifflinburg and Milheim. Took a while but not an unpleasant drive if you like country roads. You might see some horse drawn buggies along the way.

Coming from South Carolina. My wife works a hotel chain that just opened up a property in downtown Pittsburgh so we get the employee rate there.
That will be way out of your way. Unless you want to see Pittsburgh I would suggest looking in Altoona or Harrisburg. Both are closer after the game and not out of the way.

Actually Illinois is our designated B1G West yearly opponent, meaning we will be playing them home and away every year for some period of time. At least it is not Nebraska or Wisconsin. We will play Illinois more than any other West team

IL is a good measuring stick opponent to guage Ash's progress. I don't think their recruiting has been much better or worse than ours over the last 2-3 years. Both IL and us have new HC hired after the 2015 season. I don't want to hear the "lack of talent" excuse when we play IL.

We don't agree often Chip, but when we do, it's a good thing! I absolutely HATE the "ttfp" crap and always thought it was stupid as well.

Strangely enough, in exact rank & date order

1. 1000% Nebraska.

2. Illinois, generic but chance of win.

3. Michigan, fine but douchey.

4. Yankee Stadium, overpriced, ****.

666. Rapey Valley, must be nuked from space and the ground salted. Rather have a shower tour then spend a minute near those subhumans.

***. Indiana, never been, if we show signs of life I'll make effort.

Nebraska: As mentioned awesome downtown pre/post game. Plus Omaha Zoo is World class. Affordable flights to Omaha, pricer to Lincoln. Nebraska people so friendly, it's annoying!

Any suggestions for a Nebraska trip? I'm assuming fly into Omaha but what about any hotel suggestions, maybe stay a night in Omaha, etc?

Plenty of Hotels in Omaha. We stayed right across the river in Council Bluffs, Iowa ... Ameristar Casino . plan to go back.

I think Nebraska is an easy choice for you.

1. Iconic program.
2. September weather.
3. You'll have plenty of chances to see UM and PSU.
I've read very good game experience reports posted here by fans who went to See Rutgers play at Nebraska

Live in Omaha. You should do Nebraska. One of the best college atmospheres bar none. Approaching 300 consecutive sell outs. If Lincoln hard then stay in Omaha. Lots to do and only 45 minutes to Lincoln

It's currently at 347 consecutive sellouts.

Hyatt, Courtyard, Embassy Suites, Hilton Garden Inn, Holiday Inn Downtown, and Cornhusker.(in that order) All nice places. All $300-$400 per night with 2 night minimum. All walking distance from all bars, restaurants, and stadium. BOOK NOW. NU ticket stuff starts up Monday and a lot of people will do all bookings for the year then.
If staying in Omaha on Friday night I suggest staying in LaVista which is West Omaha and has good hotels and is easy on and off of I-80 which takes you to Lincoln and also gets you away from where the traffic starts getting slow for gameday.

All the bars in the Haymarket in Lincoln open at 6:30am for games regardless of kickoff time now. September day games can be extremely hot in Lincoln.

A word of caution re staying in Omaha if you want to go to Nebraska game. 3 years ago the kickoff was 11:00 AM local time, if memory serves me correctly. The alumni tailgate started at 8:00 in the old train station downtown--an excellent venue. Our history of scheduling late afternoon/evening games is poor, so I would caution staying in Omaha and driving to Lincoln on game day, especially if you will be attending the alumni function.

So stay in Lincoln?

I highly recommend you do, but I also hate to drive, once I get into town even if it costs more. Of course I also have a tendency to "over train" at some of the establishments(even if they don't have a piano @RutgersRaRa). The hotels will cost less in Omaha but I'm not sure you gain enough money wise to offset the convenience of staying in the Haymarket. If your budget rules the Haymarket out there are hotels on 27th street and other places as well that are cheaper(Holiday Inn Express types) but you have to use Lyft or a cab which is easy before the game but nearly impossible after it for 4-5 hours most of the time. There are shuttle buses from a Walmart parking lot that can be used be I don't know any details on it. Omaha works if you don't mind driving and don't drink. It is a mess to and from game for several hours both before and after.

Don't go to psu you'll be disappointed. We rented an RV knowing there is no where around that place. It's a huge erector set in the middle of a cow field. The food ehh not the best and not much to do or see. Fans OK but a lot of jerks we got lucky to sit next to some nice older folks, but the younger one's are just dicks. I would not attend another game there, quite disappointed.

Just booked MrScrew & I for Lincoln. Flying into Omaha on Thursday & will spend the day/night there then drive down to Lincoln on Friday for 2 nights at the Haymarket Hyatt. We had such a great time there 2 years ago we are heading back again.

Hey all, thank you for the wonderful and informative posts.

Because of a conflict the weekend of the Nebraska game, we have decided to do Michigan. We have 11 of us going and I got an Airbnb 0.5 miles from the stadium. Split up it comes to under $220 per person for the two nights. Flights right now to Detroit are $236 round trip.

The listing on the house mentioned the garage is great for a pre game tailgate because it is finished with a big screen TV and fridge. I can't wait to bring my RU flag and fly it in front of the house lol.
