While all games can technically be won or lost, name your upset win for the Cats and upset loss for the Cats in 2016. I actually kind of like the Cats against Michigan State as potential upset win. The upset loss should it occur is very possible for their opener. They just DON'T play well against the MAC. I think they'll win, but the game concerns me.

Upset win tOSU to make up for upset lose to WMU. Not really what I think will happen but, if you have to name something for fun, do it.

Losing to Indiana would be a joke. They are going to suck. They lose too much from a quite bad team. K. Wilson is an ******* and if we lose to him then Dr. Jim should go stick his head in an oven.

You guys will not lose to Indiana or WMU. Not even close. You're too good for that.

Upset win over the Hawkeyes. After the game, folks will wonder that it was considered an upset. NU clearly the better team.

Upset loss to either Duke or Nebraska. Not because either of them are better, but because one of them might find a way to be better THAT DAY.

choosing an upset 'loss' is hard because we are so rarely favored by more than a few points. so, say we are 6 point faves over Indy or Duke, yes we will all be pi$$ed if we lose, but it isn't going to be headlines.

I don't think we can go over to that Valhalla of yahoos in Columbus and win. As far as quality of team, I have nearly equal respect of MSU and have seen us win a few against them, though very few against Dantonio. I'll take that one

Love the fact that you are here again! Before you pass over WMU though, we don't play well against the better MAC teams. Most often it's that we don't cover, but sometimes we actually lose as in 1995 where our only loss came at home to Miami of Ohio

Let me be clear, I think that Iowa is also prime for an upset and we are usually a great road dog! I just don't think that MSU is going to be anything great this year without Cook and that's why I picked MSU.

That was a Pyhrric loss. They got the loss out of their systems before the B1G season and NU inadvertently found the successor for Gary Barnett.

Ohio State will be the biggest win, but it won't be an upset.

Biggest upset loss: none. 15-0 baby

You must have missed the Indiana games last year where they almost beat Ohio State and took Michigan to overtime.

A good MAC team has about a 50/50 shot of beating a mediocre B1G team. We are certainly not mediocre, but WMU is a scary game, especially given that it's the opener.

Kevin Wilson is building something at Indiana.
Like a ham sandwich?

IU lost some very good players on offense (Sudfield, Howard, Spriggs), but they have good depth at skill positions, especially after bringing in a good JUCO QB. But they continue to struggle to recruit talent on defense. I see it continuing to be their achilles heel.

That said, it presents a matchup problem for NU if our passing game still cannot present a credible downfield threat. 24 points against the Hoosiers may not be enough this time around.

I don't recommend sleeping on Indiana. Wilson produces damn good offensive lineman and they be playing with 4 5th year seniors. I expect them to be very good on that side of the ball. Very similar to what Walker was at NU. I'd much rather be playing Penn State, Rutgers, or Maryland this year and I think Indiana could have a damn good team. They play Nebraska the week before us. They'll beat Nebraska.

Nope. They are just no damn good.

They had some nice pieces. It was amazing to see them dominate Michigan at the LOS when they had the football. Their offense was pretty damn good. The defense, however...

They need a newcomer to step up at QB because their back up last year was not Big Ten caliber. I like their OL and skill players but I am not at all impressed with their defense.

They signed a pretty highly rated JUCO QB, IIRC.

I am emphatically not saying that. I think the unlikely worst is 7-5. The still-unlikely-but-closer-to-happening best is 10-2. If I worked in Vegas I'd put you at 8.5 wins and argue the over to 9.

The problem is, the average sports bettor would never go with the over at 8.5 and Vegas wants as many bets Over as Under. Never confuse betting lines with what will actually likely occur!

I'm not sure the bolded statement is true, not after a 10-3 season in 2015.

Most people pay closest attention to what happened recently. We tend to see that as the #1 predictor of what will happen in the near future.

If I'm putting money down on how you'll do in 2016, I'm darn sure gonna know that you won 10 games in 2015.

In any case, Vegas' bookies certainly know their business better than you or me. Have any of the betting houses (the actual bookies, not some ESPN sports writer) put an over/under for NU in 2016?

Will be interesting to see where they come out, when they do....

Do you think that large fan bases can screw the line in one direction out of optimism?

Deering...I don't think I know that to be a fact! All a line knows is numbers plain and simple. When the number is too high on one side the numbers say change the win total higher or lower. It's money and on;y money that changes that.

I think so.

We know that Vegas adjusts the line based on early betting. And I've seen the line shift in favor of the Vols many times; don't think I've ever seen it shift the other way. Pretty sure we have one of the larger fan bases.

p.s. Talking about single-game betting lines, not season over/unders, but the principle should be the same for the bookies.

yea for the last 3 years western has had the best recruiting classes in the mac. in those years they have out recruited some b10 teams. the western qb has been starting for 21/2 years and has thrown for 8567 63td. they have a high draft pick at wr 6.3 210 corey davis in 3 years he has 235 rec 3785 yards 33 td. he had 10 catches for 154 yards last year against msu. at rb they had a freshmen run for over a 1000 yards and 16 td. his backup had 735 yards and the year before ran for 1550.they have not been great on defense think northwestern wins but i think it will be close in the 4th quarter
