Ford isn't a terrible game coach but he has just had a gradual decline in his recruiting. I can't talk bad about a former Kentucky boy, but there is no question he needs a reset and a new start elsewhere. Maybe he should take an assistant job somewhere for a year or two.

Can't agree or disagree cause I don't know the guy but from where or what exactly does this negative reputation originate from exactly??? Any specifics??
I know most people think this and who knows if it is true but I have never seen a lick to make me think he could coach at all. Can't believe T.Boone has put up with him this long to be honest. OKie St should at worst be the type of team who is a 8/9 seed type tourney team every year.

I've heard several stories over the years about Travis being a prick. A good friend of mine at work tried to talk to him when he was coaching at EKU. Said he was one of the biggest ******** he had ever been around.

1) Its been said on this board 100's of times that he wasn't a good guy. I met him once in the 90's and he couldn't have been nicer to me and my brother (take that for what it's worth)
2) In my younger days I was a trucker. Hauled a lot freight to Stillwater. I still don't know how they could get anyone to willingly commit to four years in that hellhole. I'd rather go to Akron or Detroit.
3) He's sure as hell done at OSU. They SUCK!

As a Kansas fan visiting this board tonight. I must say first, that I'm not a fan of Travis Ford in any way. But this year is not totally his fault. He has two starters this year with a combined starting point total of around 27 points per game out with injuries. You remove that type of point production from your starting rotation, most teams would lose a lot of games. So as an out sider who has no love for the guy. I would say he's okay as a coach, maybe and he should get another year at OSU.
This year even I would give him a pass with the amount of injuries at OSU this year and it's not just the two players I mentioned. Because he has had 3 or 4 key players not playing this year at times.
Travis is an okay coach but his weakness lies with dealing with his players. UK a reminder Marcus Smart came into Lawrence and OSU won the game. Then Travis OSU team imploded that year in part because of Marcus and Travis lost his team.
Travis bad coach or just horrible circumstances and bad luck? But the OP is right about one thing that his seat at OSU is getting hotter.

I'm curious about the reputation Travis has. Everyone tells stories about their brother in law, or someone they work with's nephew, saying he was an *** to him. I've not heard or seen any first hand stories about him not being nice.

I will tell you my only personal interaction with Travis Ford was positive. I was at a UK football game when he was EKU's coach. Walking from my spot in the orange lot about 1/2 an hour before game time with several beers in my pockets to drink on the walk, I saw him walking just as we approached the blue lot. I said to my brother, "that is Travis Ford" and he heard me. He turned around and walked to us, introduced himself, and talked to us for 20 minutes while we drank our last beers. I offered him one and he declined. But, he talked to us for 20 minutes about his playing days, including the time he shot free throws for another player and Pitino suspended him for it. He was a really nice guy to us. Funny, the same day we talked to Marquees Estill on our way out. Both were really humble acting to a couple of guys their parents age that just wanted to say hi.

Are there any real stories about him not being nice, or has our internet fanbase just started a rumor that has perpetuated itself?

Head coaching is tough. That's why so many wind up fired and returning as an assistant somewhere. Cal has a couple on our bench.

Just curious, was anyone championing Ford to become our coach when either Tubby or Bcg were fired or quit on here?

I've seen quite a few people on here talking about negative firsthand experiences in dealing with him.

Ford was by far my favorite player growing up. For his size and athleticism he was simply amazing. One of the fab five players called him the college Steve Nash.

I remember Ford doing the free throw thing vs Vanderbilt in Nashville his senior year. I believe he both shot free throws for someone else, he also directed Brassow to the foul line when it was Prickett who was fouled. He was shown on tape pointing Brassow to the line.

Piece of crap when I met him for a "display" at my high school

He went one on one against our star player and our guy ate him alive

He left without a handshake and didn't acknowledge anyone on the way out

My mom met him out in Lexington in the late 90s, said he was just the most personable, friendliest, nicest, and polite person and looked her straight in the eye while they chatted. He was her favorite player, and said he made her feel like she was the only person in the room. Apparently you either get good Travis or bad Travis.

He's pretty below average as a coach at OK St though.

And to think, some of our fans wanted him here. Some of those fans also wanted Billy Gillispie. I'd like to think that most of those people stay drunk.
If anyone wanted Travis ford then they really didn't want uk to succeed.

Personally saw him talk a high school kid out of accepting a D1 football scholarship to come to OSU to play for him. The kid did, and 4 weeks later he pulled the basketball scholarship offer. Douche.
