Not having a rushing attack in SEC will get you murdered. I remember when we used to make fun of ole miss for running a one dimensional pass offense. I don’t care if LSU ran a version of air raid last year. They had stars everywhere. The finesse offense just doesn’t work at MSU

I felt like we did fine on designed runs. Obviously Costello’s sacks murder that stat, but something is missing here. There is a huge loss somewhere making it negative. Either way the offense is trash right now. Gotta get fixed or we will not win again this year.

It's Leach being stubborn with his OL. He's just gonna keep running the same stupid plays till they learn how to block 3 dudes. We might as well just cancel the season and blame it on Covid at this point. Then Leach needs to sign about 10 OL from some other state besides MS.

Yup - I was noticing this all game long.

I have no stats access but has MSU ever had a game with a TOTAL rushing yards that is negative? I'd imagine we have but it has to be a long time ago?

I get a pass heavy offense but at the least you have to have a rushing attack in some form to make the defense honest or else we get some of what we see now. Maybe that works in the Pac 12 but it's hard to see this working in the SEC as it is currently playing out. Though I don't excuse any of Hill's rumored behind the scenes mentality, it's hard to see how underusing a 1000+ yard rusher in the SEC (and under a Moorhead offense at that) is a winning strategy.

We did have a rushing attack... an inept one.
20 attempts

TWENTY

Bad OL + Fr. running back + Costello folding like a cheap chair with sacks = negative rushing.

No, we did not do well on designed runs. Our rushing plays are too predictable. We never fake a handoff. QB never pulls it and runs. The front seven reads our running back every play and knows what’s coming

Yea I looked back at the stats and they were terrible even for our RBs. Only 10 rushes for our RBs for the entire game. The other 10 were QB runs/sacks.

I don’t know why I thought we did okay there but we clearly did not.

Noticed that too today. On the few designed runs, LBs were already crashing the line by the time the RB got the handoff.
