Bonner tweeted that this is one of the lowest average prices tickets have ever gone for. I don't think people are complaining about Stricklin for that. They're complaining how they spent a **** ton of money for tickets that are going $2 on the secondary market.

The box office prices were what you would normally expect to pay for a major sporting event. The prices have simply cratered because our fans think getting to Miami for a bowl game is too difficult.
More people should be making the effort and filling up half the stadium. That's what fans of big time college football programs do. I guess we'll where we stand in that regard on NYE.

One problem is the Orange Bowl offered a package earlier that if you purchased a annual ticket to this years OB you would get
same seat next year. They are one of the two championship locations. People bought tickets just for next year.

ESPN say Mississippi folk don't have much money anyway to make trips to Omaha was impressive.

Look, as a fan base we need to advance with the program that Dan is building. Part of that is understanding there will be year-end bowl appearances that aren't in Memphis and planning to be there to support the team.

No bowls are well-attended. I'm betting the playoffs won't be as well-attended as projected. I bet many fans of those 4 teams will roll the dice on which game to attend.

Ok, let me make it a little clearer for you. Orange Bowl ticket demand SUCKS - regardless of the teams in the game, so prices have not "cratered" due to our fans' inability/refusal to go to Miami. Prices were rock bottom before we were involved- and even when FSU was a participant.

So how many tickets has Ga. Tech sold?
Everyone is focused on why MSU fans are not bringing 30k fans, what about Ga. Tech fan base? Why worry about all this if you are not attending the game?

Not an Orange Bowl problem but a bowl game problem. I've been pissed the past 4 years about the prices and seats that I got from Bulldog Club. It's worse this year but its not a new problem. Sponsors get loads of tickets that they hand out to customers who could care less about traveling to see MSU play and they put them on the net for $2-$10 meanwhile fans of the schools get hosed. I'll still go to the games but I've bought my last ticket from the Bulldog Club
My problem is getting down there.
If I drive it, I'm having to basically take 3 days off of work and that's with new year's day off. I still have hotel costs, which aren't cheap since it's a holiday.
If I fly, I find it hard to justify paying 1k for round trip flight to Miami when I paid less than 600 dollars 2 months ago to get all the way to the west coast. Travel is just too expensive (and dangerous really, too) over major holidays.

My 2 plane tickets were $1200. Three nights in a hotel, including NY Eve total $1100. The ONLY reasonably priced part of my trip will be the $10 tickets I buy on the sidewalk outside the stadium.
As several have posted. It has to do with location. It is not a MSU problem. There may be wonderful weather in Miami, but it is only a few miles from Havana. And the stadium is huge. Big stadium, difficult and expensive travel equals $2 tickets I wish we were playing in Atlanta. But we got the "Big Bowl" in a place far, far away.
Flight options out of MS are a problem as much as anything.

What took you so long. When we played Michigan in the gator bowl, through the ticket office, they send me second level tickets nearly in the endzone. Two friends went at the last moment and would try to pick up two tickets at the stadium. At the end they had two tickets in the MSU section for $20 each in the MSU lower section. Never went through the ticket office again. This time I got seven tickets in section 115 for a total of less than $150.
Add meals and transportation and you're looking at over $2,500 not counting the tickets. This is one reason I don't get the people bitching about the cost of the tickets. It's pretty insignificant compared to the rest of the trip. Personally, I wouldn't spend that kind of money on the game if the tickets were free. But if I'm going to spend $2,500 I'm not going to ***** about another $250 for the tickets.
Agreed. The only thing that will solve this is people moving to the Jackson or Gulfport areas, and actually flying out of those airports. Southwest left Jackson due to low traffic, bottom line.
The only other viable options for air traffic are Tupelo, GTR and Meridian/Hattiesburg, who share the same service now. How viable are any of those airports honestly, as far as attracting big time carriers and numerous non-stop routes? Not very. So the State of Mississippi will live or die with Jackson and Gulfport, barring an economic boom in Northeast Mississippi, which is probably best served by Birmingham-Shuttlesworth right now. Memphis will continue to serve Northwest Mississippi.
Memphis has direct flights to Miami, by the way.
