was that Gene's description? MSU's status in baseball is much higher than UT in my opinion.

who hit .510 and only K'd twice all year. Mitchell may be more of a project, but he has pretty good size and still has some time to fill out his frame.

They had a first round draft pick in CF in Kentrail Davis, and they had two really good pitchers in Nick Hernandez and Byan Morgado that had top five round ability.

And yet, they had another horrible season.

They've produced some good players through the years, but I think the coach that they have right now, Todd Raleigh, is in over his head. They could be really good if they had a good coach.

But yes, they are not a national superpower.

Mitchell sat out much of last year because of a rib injury. He could be somewhat of a sleeper because of that. He has offers from Navy and Georgetown, so he must be pretty smart, which could mean academic money. He sounds like someone that could be a SEC starter on Sat. or Sun. in 3-4 years, and probably help out the bullpen early on.

Frazier sounds really good to. Obviously, .510 as a junior and striking out twice the whole year speak for themselves. I also found out that he hit a home run in the Sun Belt Tournament in Oklahoma, which is a pretty good tournament, so may have some pop in his bat to.

The interesting thing to me, though is we already have Chase Luwallan and Garrett Pitts committed, and both of those are middle infield types, and then we also have C T Bradford committed, and he is also a leadoff type of guy. Sounds like someone will probably move to the OF.

well we know that coach is going out and getting who he wants. i trust he knows what he wants and not just hoping kids come to camp and overlooking guys. stephen head and lewis coleman were also underwhelming in high school if you go that route

because I think we saw this year he isn't going to win without superior talent.
umm, does anybody win without superior talent? i mean, that's usually how it works, best players usually win. college sports in a nutshell. notice i said, "usually". and don't crawfish the question, we did not have average talent this year. we had inferior talent, esp. the pitching rotation.

on where Daryl Norris and Kaleb Barlow decide to go. We might get Matt Erickson if LSU doesn't offer.

Norris and Barlow are draft prospects for sure.

If Erickson doesn't come, I think we will likely offer Jackson Posey from Sumrall.

Of the commits we currently do have, C T Bradford and Chase Luwallen are probably the highest recruited and probably could go just about anywhere.

Oh, and for the Jones County fans, I've heard that we're talking to Vito Perna, a pitcher from West Jones. I also think that we will get Wes Rea for at least baseball.

Tyler Mims would be a nice get to, if Gendron and Maniscalco can steer him our way.

uhhh, yes. Yes they do. Otherwise, we would never win a football game against over half the SEC.
as i predicted in my post, you crawfished my comment. you left off this quote of mine:

best players usually win
it's all about the numbers, fella. you want to win consistently and win ch'ips, as in most fans expectations of the msu baseball program? you have to have the better players. end of discussion.

a single game can be won without talent. but a program can not be built without it.

Just because you contradicted yourself in your own post to cover all bases doesn't mean I have to ignore the only part of your post that was relavent. Your added "best players usually win" jsut reinforces my statement that we better be bringing in great talent.

ok. so you agree with me. Now what was your point again? </p>

stop making up stuff. my point is very clear. you said coach cohen can't win without better players, meaning as as a slam on cohen. before you say it wasn't, it was, you know it, you've been slamming him all year. so i ask, who can win without players? (assuming we are talking about a winning season, not just a flash in the pan game or two here and there) and yes i agree no coach, even cohen, can win over the long haul without good players. but that's not what you meant until i called you on it, was it smart ***?

a big part, so big it's almost the only part, of winning in college sports is recruiting your type of players, that you feel you can coach to win. if you can't recruit, you won't last long. hell coach cohen did a great job getting to .500 with a bunch of jokes that had no business in the sec at all. did better than polk with less talent. yeah he sucks.

I made nothing up, goat, or whatever name you are going by this hour.

you said coach cohen can't win without better players, meaning as as a slam on cohen.
I can't totally disagree with that. I certainly was dissappointed that there was no bump from the new coach this year. Any improvement over the previous year was minimal. And before anyone goes beating their chest, I got in many, many arguments with people arguing how much better Croom was that Sherrill. How did that turn out?

before you say it wasn't, it was, you know it, you've been slamming him all year.
Now while I would certainly never be confused with a Cohen-sheep, I was never overly-critical of him. How would a person with 6 posts know what I posted anyway? Oh yeah, you change your name on a daily basis. I forgot.

****, here we go. Same argument from 2003 about Croom and Sherrill. If you can't see the improvement, you're blind. Jeesus.

just as it was in crooms first year. it's the continued improvement, that's what you're looking for. and besides, comparing croom and cohen based on resume and what they will do is idiotic. great job.

i think it's pretty well known that i change names. tell heydog to quit getting his panties in a wad from a year ago.

and I wholeheartedly agree that you need talent to win. You can't even make it to Omaha unless you have some degree of talent, unless you have a team that somehow manages to get the easiest draw in the history of the baseball tournament.

One thing I disagree with was whoever said we are getting whoever we wanted. I don't think that's going to be true, at least this year, and at least on a national stage. The fact of the matter is when you have losing seasons, a lot of high school kids are going to be at least a little skeptical, and our facility is not the jewel that it was compared to others in the league. This next season is critical for MSU. We must have a winning season, and we must make the postseason if we want to recruit like we need to be. I think the silver lining here is most of the guys that we may not get are all guys that LSU wants. That tells me that we are at least identifying good talent and are at least trying to bring it in. That's a start.

We are doing very well in Mississippi, and I think that's a very good thing as well. The first thing we need to do is take over recruiting in our own state. If there is one thing that I do like about this class so far it's that we are getting some players from other states around the South as well.
