Kansas has had some luck this year playing teams not at full strength (Kentucky and Duke), getting at least one very bad missed call in their favor (Walk, Chalk, Jayhawk) against Kansas State, and had multiple teams with leads fold like a cheap tent. Teams in the SEC that play us tough rarely ever let up at the end like the Big 12 opponents do for Kansas and I believe that and less favorable calls better prepares us for the tournament. That is why we have been to 6 tournaments with 4 Final Fours and a title in 7 years with a constantly reloaded team.
Winning 13 straight conference titles hasn't done anything to benefit them in the tournament. In the previous 12 tournaments, they have lost 2 times in the first game (13 and 14 seeds), 3 times in the second game (7, 9, and 10 seeds), 2 times in the Sweet Sixteen, and 3 times in the Elite 8. So only twice they have made it to the Final Four, with 1 being a championship. During those 12 tournaments, they have been seeded a 1 seed 6 times, a 2 seed 3 times, a 3 seed twice, and a 4 seed once. They have only beat a team of equal or better seeding 4 times with all those occurring in 2 years. The definition of underachieving.
