Bill Shankly’s right.

The 1A schools were upset with Greenville St. Joe, Cathedral, St. Al being in their class. You think they’re going to go to MAIS or be in favor of a merger & say Kumbaya with them?

No way that’s happening.

I’m just waiting for them to be upset at TCPS, Resurrection, Sacred Heart, Piney Woods, and French Camp.

Edit to add: I forgot to mention St. Patrick and St. Andrew’s.
I read Madison St. Joe is going to MAIS as well.

They will be in MAIS Class 5A according to Brandon Shields.

I wish MAIS would post the new classifications on their site. They’re usually good about these things and they’ve not done it yet.

How many of y'all in this thread are 1A people? I am.

Cathedral class 01

ive chuckled at some of these “outer space” comments.

In 99’ they moved chs to 2a.....for my junior and senior seasons. The 96’97’98’ won so many games and pissed off so many people....The principle slipped on 1 incoming Catholic family from BR and it pushed us over....pretty much ruined my jr and senior seasons...coaches and players were pissed and kinda quit for a couple of years

I've heard of schools using Section 8 housing developments to bring families into certain school districts. Not recruiting, just happen to know which kids families should move there.**

Unsure how true it is.

1A myself back in ‘93. I guess we had a weapon because we were hanging out one summer during workouts and I got my friend, a soccer player to practice some FGs. He was able to hit from 45 pretty consistently. We never had a player that was only a kicker until coach saw him and he joined the team. At the time we still had several players that could kick XP and we kicked off normally and the ball typically made it to the 10 if I remember correctly. Of all the teams we played, I only remember Anguilla as not having a normal kicker.

Also, since I don’t follow 1A football in MS anymore. How do they punt? Punting always seemed way more erratic when I was playing than KOs.

Gulfport High has it down to a science and the MHSAA doesn't give a ****.
I don't care about calling them out because 17 'em, but I had a SSC coach talk to one of my kids about transferring to them during an injury timeout of a JV game

Thats pretty damn pathetic they couldn’t develop a single kid to make an extra point. About 10 dudes on my 3A high school team could easily make a 30-35 yard field goal because we would practice for fun.

I have family on the Biggersville football team and have followed them pretty closely this year. Most of their games were streamed on Facebook and/or Youtube. The only team with a kicker that I recall that they played all season was TCPS.

I'm admittedly extremely biased, but it's hard for me to say Lumberton was the better team. The refs took a beautiful touchdown off the board for Biggersville or Lumberton would have been playing to tie on that last hail mary drive.

You're right though. There were some pretty questionable choices on that last series of plays. Not having Goldman Butler (#23) have the ball on that 2pt conversion, squib kicking that last kickoff, not having kids near the endzone during the Hail Mary, reverting to laterals with 24 seconds left.

Speaking of Goldman Butler, can you believe that kid doesn't have a single offer (not even JUCO)?

Butler is a classic 1A tweener. He is a heck of a player in 1A. He isn't big enough for his speed or fast enough for his size to really play in college, at least at a high level. I've seen a ton of them in 1A over the years. If he has the grades somewhere like Belhaven or Milsaps might take him.

For the most part it is not great, but it's almost always better than the kicking.

Most of the better 1A kickers I have ever seen were exchange student soccer players.

It isn't taught anymore at 1a. In the 70's and 80's when coaches stuck around for longer at 1a it was taught. Noxapater always had decent kickers back then because a minimum of 30 mins was spent practicing special teams daily. I know practice times are shorter now, but getting a kicker trained isn't that hard. Buy them a snub nose shoe and give them a bag of balls and a 7th grade manager to hold and one to catch them.
