1986 State/Tennessee game

Don Smith was fast at QB. That team had 8 RB and 4 WR’s. Boy have times changed.

I can still remember watching this game on TBS.
Those uniforms were our best ever.

1986 was the first year after many years that we brought the Bama and Auburn game back to campus. State installed bleachers in the endzones to handle the crowd.

82 ended at Clayton village in those days. Before the Bama game, there was so much traffic coming from the east, traffic was backed up for miles at the Clayton village exit.

I think so too. This game is the first that I have any memory of, and mainly because it was so talked about. Of course, my first true memory in person was the next year being up 14-3 on USM and then 14-6, 14-9, 14-11 and boom 14-18. I think we beat Memphis State 9-6 then everybody was fired up about the 30-20 Egg Bowl. Heck every one of those games may have been in Jackson, maybe Memphis was in Starkville. Thank the Lord for King Jackie.

King Jackie’s first unis are a close second. And of course the interlocking logo that our fans attach themselves to is the skinny one that came later, not the awesome block one that was on both the unis we described. It’s all because they remember the SEC title game. Similarly how they all attached themselves to &tate emotionally because of the baseball title.

We don’t understand branding….at all. Most don’t even care.

Yes. It's very frustrating watching this university continually hold itself back for a short-term gain.
