1983 vs Divorce / Breakup

Which one hurt worse?

My therapist said I might be able to talk about the 1983 season /84 OB in maybe another 10 to 15 years.

As a teenage boy, I honestly did not know what heartbreak meant until that night in January. My dad had a hard time keeping his three boys together that night. We were all a train wreck.

Is the heartache worse than getting dumped by my first love / girlfriend?

I can tell you that I have forgot about the girlfriend…

the decision to pass, when going for 2, 84 orange bowl.. haunts me to this day.. i still don't understand how anyone makes that call.

First off, what drives me crazy about that one is that we never see the ball hit the ground because the view is blocked by that dude in the comfortable dockers. We KNOW it hit the ground and bounced up because we can use common sense, but we don't see that happen. We only see the ball go behind the guy and then we see the ball disappear and when we see it again, it is going up.

But the fact that the refs don't see it actually hit the ground, should have made it impossible for them to add time on. Even though we know it hits the ground, we don't see it happen.

It would be like a guy stepping out of bounds but the view is blocked. You know he stepped out but you don't see it, so you can't rule him out.

Also, what dude is "heartbroken" when some girls breaks up with him? My god.
I know, I know, she was "special" she wasn't like other girls.

That exact situation could play out 1,000 times with different combinations of teams in different game situations.... and no ref would ever put :01 back on the clock. #Nebraska

I'll take the bait and be real

Depends on if kids were involved with the Divorce... Both my parents died when I was in my early 20's and I didn't think anything could top that pain until the day I told my 8 year old son that mom and dad are not going to be together anymore. I tell you that was officially my worst day I have ever experienced, and let me tell you I've had some ****** ones. No sporting event will ever top that for emotional struggle!

The powers that be did not want Boise State playing in the national championship and Nebraska beating Texas was the only scenario that makes that happen since Alabama had cruised their way through Florida in the SEC title game already. That is the only reason Texas got the last second put back on the clock. The horse collar penalty a few plays before really hurt us as well.

It was the 1984 orange bowl and To this day I won’t rewatch that game! I did find it interesting I watched a round table interview with some of the players on the 83 team and they all said they took Miami for granted they figured by just showing up they’d be handed the championship you could see on their faces there was a lot of regrets by not taking the game seriously

I don’t have a problem passing I the the play that I didn’t like, turner should have rolled out to his right a thrown to a back or tight end to his left Miami was way over pursuing that the receiver would have walked into the end zone similar to tommies pass to LP in the 96 fiesta bowl

i hear you.. it was a do or die play.. i would have kept it on the ground, that was our bread and butter

alot of healing from that went on when we broke charley thopsons legs on the last play in 88 heading to the orange bowl.

If you could have combined the '84 offense with the '85 defense, it may have been the best college team of all time. Frankly, the '94 Orange Bowl loss ranks about as high on my heartbreak meter as the '84 loss.
