For those disappointed by how NU got here, a bit of historical perspective. This is only the third time in the 50 years since NU started playing at least 10 games in a season in which NU has started out a season with at least eight wins in its first 10 games. The other two times? 1995 and 1996.

(they also went 8-2 in 1948 - the first Rose Bowl year).

So, embarrassing losses and close wins aside, 8-2 is still pretty rare air. I know stats are for losers and stuff, but I'm excited about this, even if I'm the only one.

I'm excited as well my friend. Sometimes the difference between winning and losing is razor thin. The past two years we have been on the other side of that and this year we're back to where the results are much sunnier! What's really odd is that we could actually go 11 and 2 with a bowl win!!! We just need to figure out something better in offense is all.

Yeah weve had like 12 crushing losses in the past 3 years. Not sure if it is luck, law of averages, or resilience. Just glad for the wins no matter what

They aren't dominating, but there is something to be said for the axim that good teams find a way to win. They used to be very good at winning close ones. Good to see them doing that again.

Whenever NU posts 6 or more victories in a season, it seems wonderful & surreal to me. I vaguely remember my family celebrating all weekend when the Cats broke THE streak -- by beating NIU, I think --I was pretty young and very possibly profoundly self-medicated at the time. So, rejoice at 8-2 Northwestern fans, unless your sophistication compels you to opt out.

In another thread, MRCat95, talked about how difficult it is to come out properly prepared week after week. Momentum and emotion seems to matter an incredible amount too. I think Purdue came in with a ton of emotion and our D was a little flat but NU rallied.

Each game is different and you play em for every advantage and angle

Interesting stat from BTN. We are 6-0 in games decided by 10 pts. or ;less. Last two years, we were 3-9 in those games.

Imo, good teams win those games. Not so good teams (Nebby this year, us the last two years), not so much.
