Number 1 doesn't do much if you can't score, we still never have enough people who can shoot the ball.

PG is the #1 issue. All of our other issues in some manner stem from that fact. It is what it is and there isn't any fix for that this year. I watch or listen to the games, try to get up and be positive going into tipoff, but otherwise just not emotionally invested in this team as we are what we are.

Recruiting is more than just trying to get the highest rated group of guys you can sign. Recruiting is about filling needs. For the type of system Cal tries to run here, he doesn't have a PG capable of running the offense. He needs an absolute stud at that position....an elite athlete with quickness and great handles. Without that kind of guy at point, the end result is what we've seen this season.

That tells me Cal needs to do one of two things: Recruit/evaluate talent better. Or change the system by shelving the dribble drive and adopting a more traditional, highly structured offense. What he is doing now is the equivalent of trying to make a gourmet pink salmon meal out of mackerel.

It’s only the number 1 recruiting Class because it has the biggest ensemble of 5*. There are like 3 5* players and a TON them are 5* because they are super insanely athletic and look good playing AAU “basketball”. Cal doesn’t recruit to build a cohesive team. He just scrambles around and snatches whichever 5* will come.

Fair point...maybe what needs to be said is Cal doesn't bring in multiple shooters on the roster...it's sort of like 1 shooter at best surrounded by non shooters (maybe exception was Ullis, Murray, Willis...but did have Briscoe).

He doesn't want to accept that the game has changed and we are suffering for it.It reminds me of Denny Crum who let the game pass him by.

Cal still seems to go for athletes over guys who can actually shoot the ball.He will never change.
I think we have had many good to great shooters during Cals time here. I think this bad, bad season has made many UK fans forget about the really good teams we have had. If we cant get on a win streak this will be Cals first losing season since his first year as head coach. Factcheck may be needed on that. We are what we are right now and while we will get better it might not be enough to go anywhere.. If we do not make the tournament, I will impatiently wait for next year.

HS Recruiting rankings are based on potential just like the nba draft. HS Recruiting rankings are not based how good of a college basketball player these guys will end up being. Good college basketball players can shoot, they can dribble, they can pass. Guys like Boston, Clarke, Whitney, Goodwin, and Diallo have big time pro potential but they don’t help Kentucky and Cal shouldn’t recruit them IMHO.

when you consider quickley was not a shooter his freshman year.... then that leaves you with only 1 shooter every year outside of Harrison and Booker together....

It shouldnt take someone with a higher IQ to see the more great shooters you have on a team, the better the team ............ maybe?

Agreed. We simply can't create offense at the guard position. The backcourt lacks the ability to consistently get by their man and breakdown the defense. Forcing the opponent to help on drives opens up a lot of scoring opportunities. Most often you'll either score or get fouled at the rim or have open shooters.

Again you point to generic individual nonsense and ignore the indisputable team production. Like someone mentions above you are so arrogant you don't even understand you are proving the opposite of what your aim is.

CJ/Hale from fall 2019....even worse this year.

A year ago, Kentucky ranked 341st of 353 teams in percentage of points from 3-point range (29.6). In Calipari’s 10 seasons at UK, the Wildcats have ranked in the top 250 of that category only twice and never higher than 180 (2010-11).

Dominating in high school and AAU is not the same thing when you play against experienced P5/D1 players.

This may be the most overrated recruiting class in the history of college basketball. Boston was picked to be the 2nd player drafted in the 2021 NBA draft before the season began with Clarke also slated to be a lottery selection. These two players were “expected” to dominate in their only year of college basketball. Before the first tipoff, Boston proclaimed he was going to be the greatest player in history of the NBA. Neither Boston or Clarke, when he has been able to play, have come close to even demonstrating that they have talent superior to most of the college players they have faced this year.

There is nothing more predictable than the incendiary reaction by many members of Big Blue Nation when their expectations of instant college success by Kentucky recruits fails to happen. To a certain extent, we are responsible for creating our own discontent with Kentucky basketball. When these coveted players are still in high school and being recruited by the coaches of every top program in the nation, this board is always populated with posts from fans who become unequivocally convinced these young men will be the next superstars of college hoops. With almost every post we collectively and progressively morph our “hopes” into “certainties” that any recruit ranked in the top ten will automatically be the next “Zion Williams“ or “John Wall”. As we have repeatedly witnessed, this rarely happens. Yet, despite this reality, year after year we continue to assist in setting ourselves up for disappointment when freshmen don’t meet the expectations created by others and ourselves.
