Better than 0-1.
Groundbreaking stuff.
That’s about all I have to say about that.
Yeah, we'd all rather it be a multi-score win. But the bottom line is NU won a tough non-conf game it had to win and the stigma of close losses will hang around until they no longer happen.
Better special teams, avoiding too many penalties, and winning the turnover battle are the difference in close games. And there you go.

I knew we would be in a dog fight. This team has a lot of new parts, and the program has to learn to win. They took a step forward tonight. My heart is in bad shape, but I can smile.

This is the magical third year we all waited for under Rhule. We still are frustrating to watch but somehow win in spite of it now

How many times have we lost in the last ten years have we lost for those exact same reasons? I honestly lost count....the game looked like **** and we FINALLY won. Progress in my mind.

O line didn't have their best game. They kept 2 deep safeties most of the game so we couldn't throw deep and we still struggled to consistently run. Showed potential at times but had a rough game.

Hartzog doesn't luck into that INT, we are having a very different conversation.

We fully escaped against a marginal at best Cincinnati team with a QB and team with some fight.

It's a win and we'll take it. Looks like maybe 8-4, 9-3 tops.

We lose this game if Eckeler isn't here.

How many games is DR gonna have to throw it 42 times to score 20 points?

Almost half of NU's offensive plays were in Cincy territory.

Next two games, EJ needs to carry it no more than 8-10 times each game.

We still can't stretch the field vertically. We haven't proven we can go deep.

4 or 5 teams are gonna abuse NU just running the ball.

I'm still in the "prove it" mode.

That’s about all I have to say about that.

What an epic game! Husker fans showed up big…Stadium is rocking!!
A lot of work to be done…but on a bright notes, DR played smart, and did what he had to do.

Really vanilla on both sides of the ball, but that’s probably to be expected for the first game of the year. 1-0 baby! I’ll take that all day long.

1-0 is the most important stat. Hopefully, Cincy is just better than we thought. The best take away is that Raiola didn't turn the ball over. EJ was over 100 yards rushing for the game. 100 yards. Made both field goals. Nice punting by the new guy. I'm just going to be happy.

I'll be the first to say it.

We need a QB change.

Our QB got outplayed tonight. Badly. And it happens all too often for our supposed 5* QB.

I'm ready to make a change. Our DL and OL got beat up badly enough to know we need a mobile QB.

We got lucky. Really lucky.
Couldn't agree more. Raiola misses so many plays and it was a pipe dream to believe he could ever do anything with his legs. I would be good with completely moving off of the Raiola family. Dylan is not it and will never be.

They played 2 safeties deep all night. Do you even know anything about the game?

Very vanilla on offense which was OK and I expect a more wide open game next week. The rushing game was OK and the OL did their job opening up holes and EJ ran great. Raiola was efficient passing the ball and the receivers did a good job hanging on to the ball. The troubling side for me was watching the DL getting pushed around and pancaked on numerous occasions, it was alarming.

I don't know if Cincy is that good of an offensive line or we are just that light and weak. If our DL is indeed weak and very vulnerable to just average rushing offenses our offense is going to have to put up a lot of points in order to keep us in games. My hope is that some young back up players will be able to help as the year moves forward. This is not a bad team by any stretch but it has some work to become a great team. jmo

Our QB got outplayed? Were you watching the same game we all were. Their QB went 13/25 for 69 yards an INT.

If Butler had any sense in the first 3 1/2 quarters he would've loaded the box and kept in the pocket all game.

He put himself in great position, turned and found the ball and made a great play. That's what winning teams do when the game is on the line. The last 10 years this team would have rolled over in those last 2 minutes, especially after the defensive of holding call that pit them in field goal range.

It's ok to celebrate the close wins buddy.

The other dude threw for like, 30 yards and threw a crucial game ending INT. And DR got outplayed "badly"? That's rich.

Dylan looked good overall. They kept safeties deep to prevent the long plays. Also noticed he had a lot of time in the pocket few plays. He does look the same to me as he did last year, I don’t see the weight loss they spoke about.

Statistically we improved in many areas in this game. My main concerns are the false started mistake on the goal line leading us to 3 instead of 7 and our run defense. They could have just ran right up the middle every play

Thank goodness we won. I don’t think I could handle another opening game defeat.

WRs look better. D line took an obvious step back. Not even close to getting a sack tonight and run defense was tough. Maybe Cinnci will be a great running team this year and we just played a great running team, but I doubt it.

Hope it’s not a long season in the B1G due to not being able to stop the run.

But hard to be too upset with a W.

I can't disagree and both lines were blown off the line of scrimmage run D just plain sucked

Bad coaching last night. That last drive we had them on their heels with no time outs and a long 4th down and coach calls a TO to let them regroup? SSDD

trying to be balanced on offense when we aren’t balanced on offense. God bless Emmett but he can’t carry the ball 25 times like that. Absolute crap outside of him, and we all knew that but coach though some how a guy like Nelson was going to shock the world. And we still aren’t recruiting talent @ RB. Just more of the same.

#77 shouldn’t be playing. He was at fault for the near DR fumble. #57 is much more talented and it isn’t funny. IMO I’d rather #57 be great on 99% of the plays and have one bonehead play then play #77 and him “do everything right” but be just not very good. Please rewatch the line if you don’t believe me.

where was Carter or HH in the passing game? Having to play Luke most of the time because 77 sucks and needs help just doesn’t cut it. Figure out how to coach #57 from jumping offsides in the redzone. That’s do-able. You can’t fix 77. And I like Luke. We just need to get the other two involved too.

Rhule has always seemed to me to do what he wants to do, regardless if it’s right. Some coaches are like that vs just facing reality and playing the hand you have

A) 250 yards, 79% completion, 2 TDs and no turnovers

B) 165 total yards, 52% completion, 2 TDs & 1 INT (to lose the game)

You're picking B in this scenario?

Luckily Cincy made more mistakes then we did last night. Otherwise we would have beat ourselves again. That’s what concerns me the most.

It’s year three, we shouldn’t still be committing drive killing penalties or other mistakes like this. How many more years do we have to wait to start playing fundamental football?

The game was close enough, that a single bad play on special teams could have cost us the game. But that didn’t happen. Ekeler gets credit.

Run defense is a problem. Don’t like our chances against Michigan.

DR was quicker to scramble than last year, and got us at least one first down with his feet. A lot of dinking and dunking. One near pick-6 that would have flipped the game. Overall pretty efficient. The thing that bothers me is that DR doesn't provide many Wow! moments.

I saw the DL get pressure but that QB was tough to catch. He played well and played hard. Either their WRs suck or our secondary is decent

First and maybe last to say that.....

Raiola has his issues but he also was very efficient and was taking what the defense was giving.

I don't think our inside DLine had much push. Outside was getting through but badly overrunning and losing outide containment too much.

One notable was that reverse. Lenhardt had that outside and should have blown that up but broke inside when he would have been completely out of the play and it was a clear reverse.
