What if Coach Knight pulls a Schiano in the opener?

ESPN gives Rutgers a 96.2% chance of winning. What if Coach Knight pulls a Schiano and Rutgers loses? A loss could happen even if Rutgers is actually a pretty good team. No matter how good a team is, winning is not 100%. That being said if Rutgers loses tomorrow night optimism for the coming season will crater. Like probably everyone else going to the game, I fully expect Rutgers to win this game easily, but what if they don’t?

New Haven! Come on, it's not happening.
The sad thing is that, although you're probably right, it's not completely unreasonable for a Rutgers fan to have some concern because, well, we're Rutgers and we're not allowed to enjoy our sports. You know, because of that ancient Native American burial ground we built our school on...

Not sure why you went here when basketball has had many egg on face moments with this current staff including just last year. Sometimes it's best not to throw stones at glass houses.

I told myself after the UMass football game this year, that from now on when RU is heavily favored in any game football/basketball I would put $ on the money line of the opponent. Either RU win or a nice chunk of change.

After getting down huge early against Syracuse, they actually outscored the Cuse in the final 30 minutes or so.

Why does this even have to be viewed through the Schiano lens? Basketball got blown off its home floor by Central Connecticut State last season.

They've been bitten by inferior opponents in non-conference play half a dozen times over the last few years.
It’s not that it hasn’t happened, upsets happen all the time in basketball with Pikiel’s teams knocking off the number one team in the country twice along with some truly horrific losses. However, if they do lose, fairly or unfairly, it will be hard not to think of this in relation to how the football team started. In both cases losing seems unimaginable, yet it could happen and if it does on top of what happened to football, I think it will totally crush the spirit of fans and the Rutgers tough vibe.

The 1976 Rutgers was not in the Big. Michigan took us to woodshed.
Michigan was ranked No. 6 AP / No. 5 Coaches entering the tournament, so even though Rutgers was ranked higher ( No. 3 in the Coaches Poll and No. 4 in the AP Poll ) Michigan was no slouch.
But the 1975-6 RU team won every one of its games during the regular season and that;s why I posted :"I see a Young 1976 beginning" ,not how the season ended with loses to highly rated Michigan and then to UCLA who went in the tourney ranked #2

Rutgers played as an independent that year and though not in the B1G until many many years later, it was a team to be proud of and when looking back on the team that sear shouldn't;t be deserving of disrespect because of the tourney losses but respect for being undefeated going into the tourney
So wanting the RU football team to be like the 1976 RU MBB Program should be considered a good thing, not a horrible wish because of not being able to take it all and having Michigan beat them by a bunch .

Just enjoy remembering that season and not look for things to lessen the thrill we felt on the way to the Big Dance in 1976.
But that;s the way I feel and I know many RU fans tend to look for things on the negative side more than accept something positive being stated about a Rutgers team .
Heck I tend to think of how Rutgers played after the thrill of Victory over Louisville in 2006, so I'm not above spinning a negative thought when a great win is being discussed
