The 1976 Rutgers was not in the Big. Michigan took us to woodshed.
Michigan was ranked
No. 6 AP / No. 5 Coaches entering the tournament, so even though Rutgers was ranked higher (
No. 3 in the Coaches Poll and No. 4 in the AP Poll ) Michigan was no slouch.
But the 1975-6 RU team won every one of its games during the regular season and that;s why I posted :"I see a Young 1976 beginning" ,not how the season ended with loses to highly rated Michigan and then to UCLA who went in the tourney ranked #2
Rutgers played as an independent that year and though not in the B1G until many many years later, it was a team to be proud of and when looking back on the team that sear shouldn't;t be deserving of disrespect because of the tourney losses but respect for being undefeated going into the tourney
So wanting the RU football team to be like the 1976 RU MBB Program should be considered a good thing, not a horrible wish because of not being able to take it all and having Michigan beat them by a bunch .
Just enjoy remembering that season and not look for things to lessen the thrill we felt on the way to the Big Dance in 1976.
But that;s the way I feel and I know many RU fans tend to look for things on the negative side more than accept something positive being stated about a Rutgers team .
Heck I tend to think of how Rutgers played after the thrill of Victory over Louisville in 2006, so I'm not above spinning a negative thought when a great win is being discussed
