Good one. I didn't know that.
How the world has changed. In that Series 9 of the 10 starting pitchers went at least 6 innings and four threw complete games. Seaver's CG was 10 innings.
Compare to the two inning guys and the "can't face the lineup the third time through" nonsense today.
Average game time was about 2:20.
remember when fans were critical of the stat "Qualified start" which meant 6+ innings and 3 or fewer runs. We all thought, "isn't that what is expected? Why is only 6 innings considered good in the first place.

I loved Koosman- He and Blyleven always reminded me of each other.

With his death- it made me go back and look at his stats again... Even I forgot just how good he was- his first 4 years can compare to almost any pitcher in history, and if he had pitched anywhere but the NYM's- he would have easily been over 300 wins. And he had somewhere between 8-10 seasons that I would call HOF type individual seasons. It really is his W/L record that has kept him out.

I like the Quality (not Qualified) Start stat a lot, because it is a measure of consistency. You throw a quality start, you have kept your team in the game and given them a chance to win.

If you take two pitchers with otherwise identical stats for the season, but one has 20 quality starts and the other has 12, I'll take the 20. The other guy got his stats by throwing some gems and some stinkers. I much prefer consistency.

Back when the stat was first publicized, yes, the six inning minimum was criticized. It isn't any more. Six is the new seven.

That was pretty much my point. it is funny how when in 1985, when this became something- almost everyone was "wait- 6 innings and 3 runs is quality" and now- that man is a $25 mil guy. lol But I would actually argue the six is the new eight.

Carson Benge is one of three finalists for NL Rookie of the Year. The other two are Sal Stewart and JJ Wetherholt. This is as expected.

Jerry Koosman - RIP !

As clutch as they came !

Kooz and Tommy Agee were my favorite Mets growing up !

Had a huge poster of Jerry Koosman and Joe Namath in my room when I was a kid !

DeMayo prospect list. He usually does a nice job.

I'm not sure what "nice job" means with these guys. Maybe it means that they provide more stats in their write ups. All these reporters, who are not baseball scouts or front office guys, do is collect stats and make sure that they don't get too out of whack from the ratings/rankings given by other similar reporters who know just as little as they do. It's good to see who the top performers in the system are. But other than quotes from team sources about general impressions of the players, they're not going to provide meaningful analysis. If they were any good at that, they'd be in a front office somewhere. Heck, even a bunch of guys who are actually in front offices aren't good enough at it.

yeah- because having a $42 million dollar 3B that is here for 1 year and a great year would be .300 BA, 25 HR, 90 RBI and no speed and a poor fielder- would be all this team needs- they dont need a potential star under contract for the next few years.

I would love to take a chance on Sako- put him at 1B and Bo at 3B - find a decent 2B that does not have to be a star but plays fundamental baseball and my preference for pitching - would be to get both Holmes and King. But would not be upset at all with Skubal.

My gut tells me that Stearns may actually go outside his weird comfort blanket and make some big moves as he has to know- it is his last chance
