Ben said he and the coaches point out the player mistakes to them in and from practices, scrimmages, and other preseason play, and correct them, until the players are ready to recognize and correct any mistakes themselves during regular season play. That readiness by the team will go a long way in determining who starts and who won't. I think we'll be fine.

Ben has openly talked about how he uses scrimmages to expose weaknesses and he lets the guys figure things out. He more or less expects to lose them, as he wants to see what needs to be worked on before the season starts. Really smart when you think about it, no one pays attention to scrimmages and they count for nothing in the record books, and it comes with the advantages playing another team. Now Ben has a month to work out the issues. You'll get the usual chest thumping from our dorky rivals, but it turned out pretty well for us last year.
I bet Fran never lost a secret scrimmage. What was Iowa thinking? Who cares about sweet 16s and Elite 8s. There are important things to lose in October too.

Improved footwork, strength and conditioning and up to about 300 lbs...one of the best passers on team..that's all I've heard so far. Some video of him in other thread.

He said he has gained 25 lbs in last year and increased his vertical to 41"?
That kind of physical development to prepare for BIG BB is promising,if he still can stroke it from arc.
I really don't get the negativity toward Joey Matteoni. Go back and read the comments about Joey by one of the coaches. He described him as elite in terms of understanding offensive flow. We have a deep team but it sounds like Joey has a role to play as Ben has indicated they may go a little deeper on the bench this season.I think you mean Manicotti
I wrote last season that the coaches almost pulled his redshirt their season at Drake. It sounds like Joey has continued to develop in his time here. This staff has earned our trust in their evaluation of players.
Sad thing is, people who make disparaging remarks about members of the team are not worthy of carrying their jock straps.
Reminds me of the Ted Lasso scene where he is throwing darts. He quoted Walt Whitman who said, " we should be curious not judgemental". In Joey's case, I'm curious to see how he progresses. He may be a great teammate, maybe he is a great defender who challenges the starters, maybe, just maybe he'll break into the rotation before he's through at Iowa. I'm curious to see how this team progresses, not judgemental.

if you told me this summer that Iowa would be 1-1 in secret scrimmages I would have taken that. They are playing one of the toughest secret scrimmage schedules in the country.
Does anybody have a list - or know where to find one - of these scrimmages (and/or exhibitions) that are being televised. Either on main channels or their '+' version?
They played hard to come back from a large deficit. Just watched for a brief time once I found out about the game.
