The ND strategy of getting into the Playoffs by going 1-1 in two real games while rolling over ten Cupcakes is now in question. Luckily, they can arrange their schedule anyway they want, so a bye and a service academy before a home game against their only other real competition.

But for now, they are 0-1 against legitimate competition. For me, this was the second best outcome of a very satisfying day.

When the polls come out there is NO WAY Kentucky, with wins over LSU, USC, and road victories over Texas A&M and Oklahoma should be ranked behind Notre Dame, given the putrid schedule they've played, and both teams 6-1. But we know a fair ranking won't happen.

Apparently, some of the conferences are trying to pad the schedules of certain teams to get them into the playoffs. Penn State was predicted by many to go undefeated until the playoffs because they had 2 ranked teams to play all season long. Michigan fell out of the rankings so that left only USC. That strategy blew up in their faces.

As long as it stays independent, Notre Dame has a built in advantage every eyar thru scheduling who they actually play.

If they turn out to have a weak schedule compared to everyone else ( and they often do) and win - then they can say - well, we had to play who we had scheduled.

If they lose to the few stronger teams and everyone else is weak, then they need to be penalized for it, like last year. Gone should be the days of this way of manipulating everything for them and purely their benefit.

Notre Dame is overrated yet again, and everyone should see this setup for them for what it should be and see thru it.

Honestly, everyone outside the SEC thinks our conference is over rated. If playoff goes to 24 teams, we should reduce conference games and schedule OOC P4 games. UK could play Indiana or Purdue. The SEC would overwhelmingly dominate those games.

Oklahoma lost to Michigan. Michigan is not good. South Carolina is not a good football team. Texas A &M is not a good football team. LSU is solid. Alabama is also solid.

ND played a bad game in Provo and still had a chance to win. Now lets look at the rest of the schedule. Wisconsin just suffered their second loss of the season to an Undefeated UCLA. Michigan St is not good. Rice is not good and is only 1 of the 2 Non power 4 teams on ND's schedule. The other being Navy who ND will never not play because what Navy did for ND before most of us on here were born. Purdue is average but not terrible as they have been. UNC is sitting tied for second in the ACC. Stanford might be the worst power 4 team in the country but are also a rival so what can they do there. USC canceled on ND because they got tired of losing and their head coach knows that he can't beat Freeman, and what does ND do? They call up BYU and tell them we'll come to your place with no return game the following season. ND was the only team in the country that would play games on both coast every single year and had never played an FCS school up until 3 years ago. ND also has a winning record against the SEC so....

Thanks for weighing in, Rudy.

The fact is, nothing can remove the taint of a laughably easy Notre Dame schedule, put together with the goal of taking no chances to lose more than two games.

WIsconsin? They've beaten nobody and will end up a six or seven loss team. Add them to Purdue, Rice, Syracuse, Boston College, Stanford, Navy, North Carolina, Michigan State: That's NINE games against teams that are either an absolute joke or at least an easy target for any Top 25 team. The jury is out on SMU, but they got crushed by a mediocre Louisville team, so a game that is not much more than a lay-up.

So, a two game schedule. Already 0-1. Some accomplishment. But hey, you really looked good against Rice and Stanford.

And it isn't just the laughable schedule this year. It's absolutely cynical and cowardly to avoid the rigors of a tough conference schedule: Schedule your games and byes to maximum advantage, without worrying about a conference line-up. Play extra home games. No road games against historic rivals, no conference championship game, no meat grinder like a typical SEC slate running through Georgia and Alabama and LSU and Florida and Tennessee and TExas and Oklahoma and Auburn and on and on.

Notre Dame should be banned from consideration of playing in the Playoffs until it faced what other programs trying to achieve that face. As it is, it's not a program to be taken seriously.

ND hasn't won a title since Ronald Reagan was president. And you won't win this year, despite the cynical manipulation of the scheduling process. The program is a fraud.

Indiana is no longer a guaranteed win games they are one of the best schools out here now as long as Cignetti stays there. Have you watched the last two years?

In all honesty they were screwed 2 different ways on last play - blatant PI and there was a second left for another play the refs let run out I assume because the fans stormed field.
The clock issue is moot, as I'm sure like the Big 10 the Big 12 has a"secret time keeper" on the field and on his clock time had expired. As for the interference call I have watched Notre Dame get favorable whistles for DECADES I could care less that they found themselves on the other end of a call.

This is the problem in ranking teams before they snap the first football- the teams, aka, traditional football names are ranked so high they have a much higher floor because of the spots they can drop in the rankings.

Substitute any school who started in the top 25 this season and put them with Kentucky resume. They would easily be Top 10 at this point.
Downright disgrace that we drop after winning on the road in the SEC.

When we do lose, we will drop so quick and everyone will be back on the told you so-

I honestly don't think many of us that feel this way about Notre Dame football actually sit and watch their **** show on NBC every week.

It'sw just kinda' hard not to actually have to watch it when they are continually shoved into our collective faces like they are some kind of america's team with over rated nonsense and scheduling that, quite frankly, after all these years, Somehow STILL gets looked at like they are playing a gauntlet every year in college football.

They finally play a big game, one of 2 that could qualify in a whole year OF FOOTBALL, and they have a close loss.... controversial for them. Ya' mean they havent won enough of those kind of games over the years?

We've seen plenty enough highlights of the greatness not to have to sit there and actually intend to watch them.

So, yeah.

Like that, with all respects.

It's just ridiculous. I'd love for them to join the SEC.

seriously. Play the entire league schedule every year, not just a game or two every year or couple of years. ****. Day in day out, Notre Dame would not hold up. Not from what I have seen since....

what was that ? last title when Ronald Reagan was president?!?!?
seriously ?

Jesus. Indiana hoopsters since 1987 ?!?!? wth is going on up there in the state of Indiana ? Indiana football become your daddy now? Geez.

I'd say along with the rest of the conference : bring it on.

ND has been in the playoffs more than anyone in the SEC outside of UGA and Alabama. In order to get there, they had to win big games over the season. Everyone likes to throw out how many pros play in the SEC. Well guess what? ND is top 5 in produce pro football players over anytime frame you want to use. ND also played Boise St last year and they were a nobody according to everyone. Oregon plays Boise this year and all of a sudden that's a tough OOC game. Make it make sense. Everyone is getting beat up in every conference but the SEC people act like their players are the only ones that are getting hurt. Do people even know football?

Maybe honest opinions will simply disagree on this.

It's not that N.D. has not beaten good teams throughout the years to get into a position to finish highly. The last actual title is 1988 though..... that's an Awfully LONG TIME FOR AN ELITE PROGRAM TO GO WITHOUT WINNING A SINGLE TITLE.

oops sorry, caps lock. my bad

I think the discrepancy I see, and maybe I am wrong, but it seems like, looking at the ranked teams and who they were that particular year, comparing the overall schedule of teams they played in all of those years, the overall quality and quantity of opponents simply does not match wthe top toi bottom quality and quantity of weekly opponents that play against each other in the SEC.

That's all. Just my personal observation. I dunno if that can make sense to anyoine. Go back and look at all the schedules and crunch the numbers.

Yes, ND has been to more playoff games than anyone but bama and georgia. Bama won 3, 4 titles ? Georgia twice ? LSU once? none for notre dame in the same time.

Have they beaten SEC teams in the post season as well as bowls ?
sure they have. even some of the best in that year, I am sure.

Pro players galore..... why didn't they win more titles instead of coming up short .... for nearly 40 years now ? ( currently 38)

The comparison to Indiana in basketball is shockingly close. At least Notre Dame hasnt become utterly irrelevant in the interim.

Notre Dame's scheduling has it's built in advantage with scheduling major conference teams, but vastly less talented and hence, nowhere near the level of competition they would if they played say, in the SEC.

That's all I am saying.

My opinion is what it is, maybe wrong, maybe some wil lse it right, this is not an equal sum thing. It's a matter of opinion, I'll stick with what I have seen for the past 40 years.

Go back and watch the clock carefully on the last play, it hangs on one second for an eternity. Thought I was seeing things because I was lit that night but watched it a couple of times yesterday and something was going on.

If ND went to the Big Ten, SEC, or Big 12 they would have an actual weekly challenge to make the playoffs. Being on their own, they schedule 2-3 marquee games and teams just solid enough to keep their SOS high enough to impress voters. It’s smart, but again they don’t face the same road other playoff teams do.
