"Bowls before the season" would simply be more neutral site Week 0 games. Remember stuff like the Kickoff Classic?? And there would be no reason to play them in the south as a traditional winter getaway. A "bowl game" in Tampa in late August would be crazy. Why go to that and get roasted?? A "bowl game" in Boise would start to look a whole lot more appealing.

Love it--we can look at high profile games throughout the country. Cities like Boston, Pittsburgh, Seattle, Minnesota, DC, etc can host SEC vs Big Ten games to start the year.
I’ve heard worse ideas.

I'm sure there's better but like @NittPicker said it would be similar to the Kick Off Classic...week one (or zero) would be high profile games that don't have a ton of meaning but would create interest. I'd have a Penn State vs Oklahoma or Ole Miss game in Charlotte or Baltimore which i know some of our southern residing fans would love since they wanted us to join the ACC. Neutral site...nice late summer travel around vacations...doesn't interfere with kiss celebrating holidays for a scrimmage.

Why play in these? Even with 24 teams record will be super important. And to open the season? Pass.

It won't be--at all. Just like Ohio State losing to Texas won't hurt them
The SEC/Big Ten are probably getting 6 or 7 teams--there's no reason not to play them
It will be like Men's Basketball and Women's Volleyball. Early season games against elite competition are used to prep your team for the post season.

Thank God...best news ever
If it's the top 24 teams - that means PSU should be in the playoffs more often than not, given overall ranking history.

This puts more pressure on Campy and Kraft to get players and coaches who can get assure PSU to make the field of 24. Also makes next year look relatively more concerning given the loss of "experience" after 2026.

So why have conferences any more. If there was 24 teams in this year sec would have at least 8 in. Same teams will be playing each other. Best off not scheduling anyone out of conference any good as why risk the loss.

Seems like many have been predicting for a while that CFB would eventually boil down the B10 and the SEC. Basically, NFC and AFC. Looks like we're still trending that way.

If/when it happens, I really hope they institute the EPL relegation concept. 60-70 team Premier league. Bottom 3-5 teams drop down to the lower league and top 3-5 in the lower league come up.

Good--pressure should be on. Any Big Ten/SEC not making the playoff consistently should be considering firing their HC.

Will the regular season even matter? Fill your schedule with teams who have no pulse and glide into the real season.
And with preseason rankings being what they are, there will be about 10 SEC teams in the top 25 so the narrative all year will be that they are just beating up on great teams. along with their three games each against coastal Carolina or somebody like that, I would expect them to have at least eight teams every year.

Another "Penn State" rule to expand the field. Great, more post-season crap games.

How many times do they have to lower the bar to allow Penn State to finally make the grade?

To hell with quality, the focus is on quantity.

There's 138 teams in FBS--of course it will matter
See ever other college sport
This encourages teams to play a stronger schedule as good losses won't have a huge negative impact
See Ohio State losing to Texas

I don't understand those who think a 24-team playoff will somehow ruin college football. How so?? More teams crying about being disrespected can put up or shut up in win or go home games. And I don't care about the bowls. Most of the minor ones are boring AF. The other divisions of college football have a successful playoff every year. I don't hear talk of them being ruined.

More crap games--it eliminates the scrimmages known as bowls
And the first round should be loaded with quality games

I hate to break it to you but none of the people who devised the playoff were thinking about Penn State.
