"Bowls before the season" would simply be more neutral site Week 0 games. Remember stuff like the Kickoff Classic?? And there would be no reason to play them in the south as a traditional winter getaway. A "bowl game" in Tampa in late August would be crazy. Why go to that and get roasted?? A "bowl game" in Boise would start to look a whole lot more appealing.

Love it--we can look at high profile games throughout the country. Cities like Boston, Pittsburgh, Seattle, Minnesota, DC, etc can host SEC vs Big Ten games to start the year.
I’ve heard worse ideas.

I'm sure there's better but like @NittPicker said it would be similar to the Kick Off Classic...week one (or zero) would be high profile games that don't have a ton of meaning but would create interest. I'd have a Penn State vs Oklahoma or Ole Miss game in Charlotte or Baltimore which i know some of our southern residing fans would love since they wanted us to join the ACC. Neutral site...nice late summer travel around vacations...doesn't interfere with kiss celebrating holidays for a scrimmage.

Why play in these? Even with 24 teams record will be super important. And to open the season? Pass.

It won't be--at all. Just like Ohio State losing to Texas won't hurt them
The SEC/Big Ten are probably getting 6 or 7 teams--there's no reason not to play them
It will be like Men's Basketball and Women's Volleyball. Early season games against elite competition are used to prep your team for the post season.
