I know seeding is best in the fall. But has anyone tried seeding early spring in addition with mesotrione preemergent?

i too like seeding in the fall but I have done some spot repairs in the spring. I’ve succeffully put down seed with mesotrione then another application of mesoteione about 30 days later. You could a third application if needed, waiting the additional 30 days.

Soil temps above 55F today for the first time. Just about pre emergent time.

So what if the soil temp goes above 55F for three days in a row (I read thats what crab grass needs for germination) but then we get a freeze or frost again? Does that kill the already germinated crabgrass?

where are you seeing that? site i looked at, everything was still in the 40s except hammonton. and that is surprising considering how cold the winter has been.
Typo-snow piles. We are in Manasquan/Wall area. We have a large driveway, where we used a snowblower and put the snow in a large pile in one spot. When we landed in Newark last night, there was still al lot of snow piled up in the parking lots, and around the airport. We had about 18-20" on top of the ice chunks leftover from the previous storm. I think by Tuesday, it should all be gone.

Mine will be all gone today.
Probably will do my first application of Prodiamine to try to knock out the POA annua invasion in my yard.

Poa annua germinates late summer early fall so prodiamine at this time of year won’t do anything to it. Try multiple applications of Mesotrione, while adhering to the label in terms of amounts.

Dimension has some post emergence effect along with pre emergent. My soil temp isn’t above 55 so I’ll wait a week or two.

My bad, from our past discussions, I have Poa Triv. I will revisit in the fall. I recall from our discussions that with Mesotrione, it takes multiple applications.

My POA is thriving in this "cold" weather. 🥶

Yea, Poa annua and Poa Trivialis thrive in cool and damp weather. It’s triv in your picture. I have some too, unfortunately.

Applied Barricade 4FL today. I hope its not to late as last week I had soil temps of 53,55,60,63 and 54 for consecutive days but then it snowed the next day. It looks like cooler temps this week but I wanted to get it down. It should get watered in with the rain tomorrow.

I'm already seeing some lawns browning up and looking dried out. This early heat and lack of rain sucks.

Did not activate the sprinkler system, as we were traveling, have a few brownout spots, but they will recover.

Big success with POA trivialis! Invested $550 in 16 oz of Velocity PM, which is not cheap, but you literally only use microdroplets of it in a gallon of water. Worked like magic in one major area, and about to hit another area since it worked so will in the first area. And I applied it when it was still relatively cool temperatures- about 6-8 weeks ago. Guidance says- apply when daily high air temperatures between 70°F and 85°F (21–29°C) during and after application. This is when you’ll get the best weed control and turf safety.

One PITA thing about Velocity PM is it is very "gummy" when dropped into water, and one must VIGOROUSLY mix in. We invested in a cheapo $19 blender from Walmart to do the trick, as shaking and a paint stirrer were not enough. But even with the poor mixing, very happy with the results. It was worth the money.

Good for you! I assume your lawn is not Kentucky Blue Grass? Word of caution for those following this thread, Velocity is not intended for use on KBG and most KBG cultivars are severely damaged or killed by Velocity.

Are you consulting and giving advice on proper care? 🤔
Lol, I was a history at Rutgers as an undergrad and then MBA in finance and Marketing. Spent most of my career in SEC compliance automation, SAAS creation, EDGAR, license agreements, and M&A. Agronomy is just a hobby.

Well, I was ceramic engineering (actually that involves dirt!), then law school, and a patent attorney. I enjoy getting dirty, taking care of the lawn and doing all my own sprinkler work. Also, xur and split all my firewood by hand. I'm going to compete in lumberjack competitions in my next life!

That Prodiamine I applied in March worked wonders. The POA Triv has come back in a a few small spots, but 90-95% seems to be gone in the cool weather. POA Triv is a cool weather weed/grass that comes out in early Spring and Fall.

Good stuff! Triv usually thrives in spring and fall, as you say, falling off in the heat of Summer then returning in the fall. Good for you,

I had to by 16 oz of the Prodiamine for about $500. The stuff is so effective, you only need about 1 ml/gallon. I'm trying to figure out how to sell 5 ml quantities on Ebay! Ha, ha. Or I will advertise my services to eradicate POA Triv from my locale.

You sure it wasn’t Poa annua? Prodiamine is labeled for Poa annua but not Poa trivialis. Think it’s cheaper on Domyown pest control. Anyway, great results!

I just had a 9ft Emerald Green planted to replace a dead one. Cost me $260 including planting but I have clay soil where I live. I was able to get a bunch of soil from the nursery for free and had a large bag of miracle grow to mix together but the idiots planted it back in the clay soil SMDH. I had to get another contractor I use to come dig over half of the soil out and replace with the mixture since I'm going out to Lynchburg early morning. I didn't water but we're supposed to get 1-2 inches from the remnants of the hurricane. I'll be watering everyday starting Tuesday for a couple weeks. I have 24 of these in my back yard that make up a beautiful no-viewing zone from the street, just want this tree to survive...
