How much more time does Jans have?

I have similar concerns. He did elevate the program but has fallen short of my expectations especially since getting a player like Hubbard and not doing much with it. Last year was very disappointing. I'd say his seat is starting the season a bit warm and a lot depends on how it goes. If we don't make the tourney I think we need to move on.

I am excited about football, but I love State basketball when they are good, maybe more than football. I was really disappointed in last year's team. Would you say that Jans is on the hot seat this year?
No reason to pay a buy out for basketball when we need $$ to go all in for football for the next 2 years.

So I think he is safe.

I think he’ll get at least two more years. With 5 for 5 passing that means we could have Hubbard for two more years as well.

I think if he misses the expanded NCAAT the next two years he’d probably be gone. But I expect it won’t come to that.

To me , going to expanded NCAAT is like going to the Independence Bowl every year!

We're going to be much improved this year. Like I said about Lebby before this year, all of this hot seat talk will be a waste of time if the team is making the progress I think. Jans is going to take a step too this year.

This is the answer. If we suck again which is a distinct possibility, should his seat be warming up? Yes

But are we in any position to pay a multi-million dollar buyout so that we can just go make some ho hum replacement hire that likely isn't any better? Nope

We might be able to if we get that multi-million dollar deal from New Balance.

He will also have been to the NCAA tourney in 3 out of 5 years at worst this year. I know the trend won't look great, but there's just no way we fire a guy that has made the tournament 60% of his time here. It's going to at minimum take missing the tournament the next two years and even then I think it may have to look like there is no reason to expect the next year to be better. If we suck this year and end up on the bubble next year, I would still expect him to have a decent chance to keep his job if we have promising players coming back. But not sure how to think about being on the bubble after the expansion. Maybe he will need to make it regardless as I think with the expanded field, at least the top 50 teams will make it? Being in the top 50 as a P4 team should I guess be a pretty attainable goal, even at a relatively have not?

I don't know what our basketball NIL budget is. Some SEC schools are spending as much on their basketball NIL as we spend on football.

If our basketball NIL is seriously lacking, do we have to give Jans a pass like we had to give Lebby one?

From what I know, we are in good shape with basketball NIL.

Is that second sentence true? Are you talking about UK only? Who the hell is spending $25-30M on basketball?

Basketball NIL is in line with most of the SEC. He’s just totally whiffed on the portal evaluations.

Yea, I would be surprised if we're not top 50 in the nation in basketball. 68 P4 schools and then Gonzaga, UConn, and probably a nother handful of big spending schools outside of the P4? I would think we actually outspend a good number. Of course the gap is probably small between 50th and 65th. Maybe between 30th and 65th.

I don't know if it is true. The Athletic had an article on the sharp rise of basketball NIL. They quoted an anonymous SEC coach as saying at least 3 SEC schools would have roster budgets of $30 MM or more this year. Uk, obviously. UF, almost certainly - just take a look at their roster. I don't know the third, but I would start by looking at the Texas schools and maybe Arkansas

If that’s the case his seat needs to be red hot. He hasn’t just totally whiffed on his evaluations. He’s spectacularly whiffed. If you’ve got nil miney it should not be possible to recruit transfers this badly.
I’m more in line with what dawgstudent said. You just let him keep going because of his buyout. I would also wait and see what he does with high school recruiting. He’s on some big talent that hopefully he can pull.

We’ll see. But I agree. It’s basketball. It will always be #3 at Mississippi State.

As long as he wants as long as we don’t get embarrassed We will never put the money in for him to win any championships. AD will keep him on just so he won’t have to go thru hiring another HC. I think jans leaves for greener pastures on his own and I couldn’t blame him
