The game sucked but it is what it is .. going to have to move forward and take care of business … I hope Iowa comes out like mad hornets this coming Friday and put a whooping on Washington. They have a great chance to run the table and turn some of those close losses from last year into wins. Season is long, Iowa has a very good chance of doing great things and making the playoff. GO HAWKS!

Brown's inaccuracy, poor decision-making, and two turnovers gave Iowa little chance to win. Combine that poor QB play with the many uncharacteristic self-inflicted wounds--tackles not on the line of scrimmage, to name just one--and you have a formula for defeat.

If Iowa is going to rebound as you suggest, it will have to be with Jeremy Hecklinski at QB. He was perfect vs. Ohio State, but it was too late to save the day. Hecklinski, like MG last year, is a running threat that forces defenses to account for all 11 offensive players. That's not the case with Brown. And Heck showed pinpoint accuracy, a tight spiral, and total command as he led that 75-yard TD drive in less than four minutes. The 2-point conversion toss to Vander Zee was in the air before the receiver came out of his cut, and it was perfectly placed and timed.

If Hecklinski doesn't start against Washington, once again it'll be crystal clear that this never was a QB competition. KF wanted his game manager in Brown, and he'll stick with him no matter what. And we'll have even more evidence to add to the mountain that already exists that KF doesn't know squat about QBs or offense.

Lolol.. The last couple of passes your describing like the two point conversion are EXACTLY what Brown did on both TD's to RZV in the MIchigan game, ON THE ROAD. Perfectly executed throws thrown before the receiver was out of his break, The winning TD Brown threw when RZV was on the SEVEN yard line with his back still to Brown. Do we know if Heck throws that perfect pass in the big house in THOSE conditions other then the one he faced in a game already decided yesterday? No we don't.Maybe he does, and maybe he doesn't. What we DO know Is Brown DID. Pretty big difference between having to make those throws in a road game where the game is on the line, and one where its at home and the games already decided. Your obvious position of contrarian regardless of any actual facts gets old. The book isn't written on either of these guys yet, as they've both had some bright spots and some clearly not so bright.

I agree - Heck is the man and he needs to be the starter as he just offerers a higher reward and is much more mobile and sees the field better imho - not that I don’t like Brown but I hope to see Heck from here on out

Brown can make some throws but he can’t make reads. He doesn’t have the mental capacity to play QB. KF mentioned in a press conference there were “other factors” that also played into the QB competition.
I think KF likes that Brown is an evangelical Boy Scout. Personally, I think that reflects a person that can’t connect with the team as a leader and is too dim to make decisions and process information.

Forget the individual throws, brown clearly can’t move the ball consistently vs the three good teams we have played so it’s time to try heck

I think we have 10 scholarship Seniors. This is a very young team overall.
We have too many armchair fans. They see some football and think they have all the answers. Why aren't they coaching college ball? 7 of 22 starters are underclassmen. That is a third of the starters. Not to mention we return most of the other starters. Next season is the time to get excited. You're Hawkeye fans, not Alabama fans. So act like it.

This roster is young and a lot of key pieces return next year, (if they don't transfer)

Lol.

A player NOT being in his last year of eligibility (“Senior”) does NOT mean he shall be considered “young.”

Should we begin with the starting O Linemen?
Not a lot of returning starting experience either. I don’t know what you mean by that I guess. Sure a lot of these guys have three or even four years in the program, but relatively speaking compared to most rosters they are going to be considered young. I don’t know what to tell you.

Exactly, look at the above depth chart. LOTS of underclassmen as backups as well. Not much depth right now. It's a rebuilding year and people think Iowa is capable of making the playoff? IF the roster stays intact, next season could be very special. All receivers, most of the TE room, RB room and QB room will be back (if there aren't transfers). The defense is the most inexperienced. Lots of returning starters on that side of the ball next season as well.

Young and minimal starting experience aren’t even remotely the same thing.

At some point we’ve got to EXPECT guys (Especially those with multiple years in the program) to be 100% ready to step in and play high-level football.

I watched four games on Saturday and tackles not on the LOS could have been called multiple times in every one of them. Don't get me wrong, its a good call that should be enforced. But it should be called by all officials in every game.
Edit: I said that, not Duke.

Too many people need to step back from the ledge.
If you have been paying attention to KF over the years you know Iowa gets better throughout the season and by late Oct/Nov they are a team no one wants to see. Give tOSU credt. They have a NIL stacked line up and they are going to run the table from here on out.
A loss to them might be what the Hawks need.
Relax boys. We are gonna be fine

I suppose it's human nature, natural for many but not all humans. You win some games, then you lose one and that means you won't win any more. Even if the team you lost to is very, very good.

Poor QB play
Zero running threat
Inexcusable unsportsmanlike penalty on a kickoff
Kickoff out of bounds
Soft pass coverage

This game was the definition of a team loss. Every position sucked.
Dline is awful, secondary worse. O is what it is. And now the every team will be covering the TE out on 3rd down. Only play they can execute besides back should throw inside the 20. Get off Brown, he was Heisman Hank, the week before. The Oline is terrible. Illini had 500 yds vs OhioST.

Positive is we got a lot of looks at how we might be able to move the ball through the air, but our future opponents did too.
Good teams with decent qbs and good receivers play pitch and catch vs this outdated, good vs bad teams only, D scheme.
You didn't know they were going to throw it #4! was as ugly at watching that kid from USC run wide open last year. Hey PP stop reading your press clippings and come up with something vs good teams for once. The few that you face.

Hello, finally played two good teams in November last year and lost both. That late season dominant crap was built on playing bad B10 west teams. Same as the night game BS was built on beating eventual 6-6 Penn St teams.

How has the run game looked in those 3 games? Hank's numbers coming into this game were far superior to Heck who's one good drive this season came in garbage time of a blowout loss was by far the best he's looked this year. Heck was even bad against bad teams. Let that sink in.
