Brown's inaccuracy, poor decision-making, and two turnovers gave Iowa little chance to win. Combine that poor QB play with the many uncharacteristic self-inflicted wounds--tackles not on the line of scrimmage, to name just one--and you have a formula for defeat.
If Iowa is going to rebound as you suggest, it will have to be with Jeremy Hecklinski at QB. He was perfect vs. Ohio State, but it was too late to save the day. Hecklinski, like MG last year, is a running threat that forces defenses to account for all 11 offensive players. That's not the case with Brown. And Heck showed pinpoint accuracy, a tight spiral, and total command as he led that 75-yard TD drive in less than four minutes. The 2-point conversion toss to Vander Zee was in the air before the receiver came out of his cut, and it was perfectly placed and timed.
If Hecklinski doesn't start against Washington, once again it'll be crystal clear that this never was a QB competition. KF wanted his game manager in Brown, and he'll stick with him no matter what. And we'll have even more evidence to add to the mountain that already exists that KF doesn't know squat about QBs or offense.
