That oblique is clearly not well. He's playing hurt. I'm not making excuses, his play has been awful, but he can't drive the football. It's obvious.

It's time for Manske. People ask what Joe would do: Every time Joe had a team that was failing with upper classmen, he played the kids at mid season.

1970: Hufnagel for Cooper
1976: Fusina for Andress
1980: Blackledge for Hofstettler
1984: Shaffer for Strang
1988: Sacca for Lonergan
1993: Collins for J. Sacca
2001: Mills for Seneca
2010: McGloin for Bolton

A couple points:
— I don’t ever recall Jeff Hostetler starting. (Glad to be proven wrong)
— Tony Sacca got the job due to Tom Bill being injured and stupid.
— Mcgloin I believe was ahead of Bolton age and class standing.

But I agree that if we aren’t yet at Manske-time, we are close.

Hostetler was the same class as Blackledge. So even if Blackledge replaced him, it was not replacing an upper classman.

It was replacement of a starter however: Jeff started vs The Aggies and then against Nebraska in 1980. He was replaced by Todd at Mizzou. Look it up.

And stop nit picking. My point is clearly made and correct.

Hofstettler started the 1980 season against both A and M and then The Huskers, and was replaced by Blackledge in Columbia Missouri and a 29-20 win over Mizzou. Look it up

Did any of them have open heart surgery the prior spring?

I suggested that change but one poster reminded me Manske had open heart surgery in March. I know he was medically cleared but perhaps the staff is leary of playing him given the nature of his surgery prior to Spring practice.
It's a valid question
Truthfully, I'm shocked he's played at all this year
Now all the more reason that HCMC has to bid for a QB for 2027.

If you can't play him this season what would make you believe you can play him next season. Is there any kind of timeline for recovery from freaking open heart surgery that says "hey, 6 months is too early but 15 months? That will work just fine because hey, the whole key to recover from open heart surgery is those 9 extra months 😂.

If you are arguing that 6 months ain't enough, then I am sorry but 15 months ain't working either, board doctors 😂

But hey, Lando has performed numerous times during his long career as a doctor at the operating room table 😂

I doubt that he's playing injured- he's just not very good.
I love how our fan base pretends that nothing happened prior to them coming to Penn State matters
He's been horrible for 2 games...should have been benched last night. He's obviously not right mentally right now and I agree it's unlikely an injury.
But he's a good QB...just isn't playing like it right now.

You definitely don't want me doing open heart surgery on you...well actually depends on what you want the outcome to be

I have no idea. It's not like we have any kind of historical guidelines for a kid coming back from OPEN HEART SURGERY 😂

I wouldn't trust you to babysit my dogs pal... and the rest of this board hates you just as much. Try to pay attention and prove how 9 extra months makes some kind of difference off open heart surgery.

Barry would be an upgrade. He at least can make accurate decisions. Becht is making wrong decisions on literally every single play that requires them.
At first, I thought it was just with RPO's where he struggled with when to hand it off and when to pull it. But I was wrong. His decision making has been equally shaky.

At this point, we'd be putting a body out there, nothing else and w/ no expectations. Not sure about 6 months vs. 15 months, but 15 seems better to me. We signed Barry up for a reason - last resort. I think this situation qualifies.

If he is genuinely injured, then perhaps he should sit. The results have been abysmal.

That said, nothing is clicking. Seems bigger than a short QB who constantly gets his passes batted down.

LOL

Denial is a POWERFUL drug.

He just isn't good.
I spoke (probably kinda' often) about how the incredibly pimped-up Becht (pimped up the the fans, and the "sports journalists" who profit from the pimping up) was never more than "mid"

If I was in any way incorrect, it was that I was - at least slightly - overrating him.

It is what it is - not the kids' fault.

The fact that he was brought in to displace a kid who is - already - a significantly better QB with much more upside (and remaining eligibility) was a real knucklehead move. I can UNDERSTAND what motivated the decision, I really can. But that doesn't negate the fact that it has had a negative impact.

I'm not saying he should be the starter, but he should get some series here and there if Rocco doesn't miraculously improve. Just me, but I don't think Manske should play until 2027.

Barry could be a nice change of pace - out there just tossing it around with a little confidence and not trying to throw it through a brick wall.

But he knows the system. Things have looked a bit grim the last couple weeks, but we can take comfort in the fact that he knows the system.
