Of course they can fire anybody they want is somebody actually saying they weren’t allowed to fire him?
Isn't that the whole point of your thread? That they shouldn't have fired him? ...says you.

Why would they invest all those resources into a kid they barely hired?

Reporter who found his tweets should be fired, too, just for being a hypocritical snake.

What? The point of thread is they shouldn’t have fired him but it’s a different point if they are allowed to fire him. Don’t you see the difference? Of course they have the right to fire him. This isn’t China

A distinction without a difference, as it turns out. They exercised said right to fire him, which isn't actually "cancel culture."

No one's gonna remember this guy's name by Monday.

This is why I taught my kids early- what you put on the internet is forever. And sure, we all did and said very stupid things at 15. Lucky for many of us at our ages, that there was no social media at the time.

The very difficult thing now- is not the cancel culture, but that even in 2026- people do not understand the concept that anything you do or say online, is forever.

Tough lesson for this guy to learn but don't be tweeting this stuff if you never want it to come up again. Should he be fired for it- no, but he can't ever be surprised by it

I'm telling you, the secret is to stay away from all screens. Workout, Get some endorphins and testosterone pumping through your system. The constant need to be entertained that socials has created is making us weaker. Especially us men, you don't want low endorphins and low testosterone combined with a high tolerance for dopamine. Means it takes a lot to get you visually stimulated if you know what I'm saying. Also leads to depression and nothing in real life ever feeling like fun. I started noticing every post was designed to piss me off and cause fud in my day/life. I've managed to cut it to just the knight report forum and Facebook so I can show a picture to friends and family every now and then. You can't be manipulated if you aren't in their virtual reality where everyday the sky is falling and everyone that doesn't look or act like you is the enemy. Then you can look forward to 💩 that men are supposed to look forward to. Like building towards your financial future, sports and going home to hug your wife..not some reporters tweets from 15 years ago or that the reporter was fired. You'd be too focused on being the best you that you can be.

Is has to with sports so it is fair game
Disagree. This board didn’t even have a thread about the Knicks (a local team) winning the championship, which would have actually been about sports. You had to go the bball board for that. But I’m supposed to believe that this post about the Portland friggin Trailblazers on a Rutgers football message board is fair game, and that it’s NOT red meat for the politically obsessed? Sorry, nope.

Not to mention a former RU player starting for the opposing team.

But alas, only one aligns with the agenda of the shrinking minority.

Yes that cancel culture

You mean like the FCC trying to get Jimmy Kimmel cancelled?

No that can't be it. Maybe banning Politico and CNN for being mean?

No banning the AP for not using a name for a body of water that you invented

How about trying to remove plaques about slavery from museums?

No let's do cancelling funding for cancer research at RU and other schools because of protests you don't like?

But when it's a PRIVATE sports team, that's the real issue?

Clowns

At least it was Portland, and not the infamous Atlanta Hawkeyes, right?

There's tailgating on the CE Board!

Yes. They even have spicy condiments like mayonnaise for your nothingburger.

They gather before every Atlanta Hawkeyes game, and renamed all the lots the America Lot in the hopes you forget about the mortgage you had to take out to fill your tank to get there. And if you lose the game, you blame Canada.

No it is cancel culture to fire somebody over a tweet when they were 15. It’s ridiculous.

being about to fire and deciding to fire is a distinction with a difference

I am OP and I agree to your examples on cancel culture on both sides is a problem. You are trying to pick a fight but it’s not with me. I agree it all has to stop on both sides

How many of you guys are in business or went to business school? And you are questioning this decision by the Blazers organization.

Almost 10% of Portland is Asian. You can’t have your team public announcer saying QUOTE “Asian people p!ss me off” at any point in your life high school or beyond, PUBLICLY, as someone who is supposed to be the voice the sports fans listen to.

This is not a Portland thing. It’s a common sense, common decency thing. Yes if you are in the public eye especially as the announcer/voice of the city’s team you are held to a higher standard, period. It’s not even a question.

The franchise's international and domestic Asian fan engagement has grown significantly following the team's selection of Chinese center Yang Hansen with the No. 16 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. That selection led to massive surges in overseas digital engagement, merchandise sales, and followers across platforms like Weibo and Douyin, alongside large turnouts of Chinese and Asian American fans supporting him at summer league and home games. [1]

The Blazers are actively seeking Asian fans I guess. Hiring him would be offensive to Asians. I try not to make racial comments.

I think it’s ok to fire him. I also think it’s ok for people to criticize the Blazers as an organization who fires an employee for tweets from when he’s a teenager while employing players and coaches who have a history of gun charges, aggravated assault and more recently hired a head coach with a history of sexual assault charges who was actively running an organized crime poker/money laundering scheme.

And I think more to the OP’s point, the media outlet who goes searching for a teen’s tweets when he’s hired for a job is lame, but that’s where we are.
