It's hard to get too excited about landing a lower 4-star in the NIL era. Most top teams spend on seasoned transfers and 5-star, NBA-ready freshman. (his offer list is consistent with that fact). Even if a 4-star pans out, they often take a year or two to do so and there's no guarantee they stick with the team that chose them out of high school.

Now that Keli Zinn is getting more NIL, Rutgers can put money towards keeping the players who work out. Since Rutgers doesn’t have the money to spend on a roster full of seasoned transfers getting these types of players and then keeping them is important.

I agree, but the proof will be in the pudding.

You need both. Recruiting (and retaining) allows you to build a core that you can add transfer players with. Ideally, you’d only replace/augment 30-40% of your roster each year and 60-70% are guys who are returning and know the schemes so the new guys can just fit into the system. We’ve been replacing 70%+ each year and it’s been a killer, especially on D.

That number is deceiving for 26-27. We may have only returned 6 guys from last year’s roster but we returned a very high percentage of our late season production.

Fair point - I think we both agree directionally, continuity and experience are important and it’s been lacking the last few years.
