Now that Keli Zinn is getting more NIL, Rutgers can put money towards keeping the players who work out. Since Rutgers doesn’t have the money to spend on a roster full of seasoned transfers getting these types of players and then keeping them is important.

You need both. Recruiting (and retaining) allows you to build a core that you can add transfer players with. Ideally, you’d only replace/augment 30-40% of your roster each year and 60-70% are guys who are returning and know the schemes so the new guys can just fit into the system. We’ve been replacing 70%+ each year and it’s been a killer, especially on D.

That number is deceiving for 26-27. We may have only returned 6 guys from last year’s roster but we returned a very high percentage of our late season production.
