Wonder if they have a position for him. Seems like he will be ready at some point during the 2027 season.
Rewatch the video. He grinned twice.Where was the grin? I must have missed it.

We will know the answer to your question exactly five days after the World Series ends, which is the deadline for Bichette to opt-out.Wonder if they have a position for him. Seems like he will be ready at some point during the 2027 season.
My view is different and maybe a bit contrarian. I fully agree that Pete deserved the long, warm ovation he got before his first at-bat. But when he stepped into the box, he became the opposition. I am a "name on the front of the shirt" guy. I'm too old to get too invested in the names on the back of the shirt. I've seen too many of them come and go.Keith and Ron (and Mick too)did not seem to have a problem with it.
Did I hear @cubuffsdoug_rivals cheering "Fire Stearns" in that clip above?
Happy for Pete. Sad Mets have Stearns.
AbsurdManaea is a real good buddy off Alonso's off the field, off season
Should get couple meatballs tonight
Agreed. And the Mets players rightfully didn’t like it.Unprofessional in my opinion. There is a reason why it is unprecedented.
Pete always loved the fans here and we have loved him. I really do think he had hoped to play out his career here.I don't care. You don't take a curtain call in the opposing park. I can't imagine anything more disrespectful to your opponent.
Stearns completely alienated the fan base by never offering Pete or even talking to him. Cohen too. Pete was the face of the organization, homegrown talent, great in the community, and since 2019 had the most RBIs and games played, and 2nd most HRs, yet they didn't even bother talking to him. The Mets wasted insane amounts of $ on many crappy players that never performed, yet they wouldn't offer their great homegrown talent to keep him in NY. They disrespected him, made up some BS "run prevention" excuse and alienated the fan base. They'll never live that down.My view is different and maybe a bit contrarian. I don't care if Keith and Ron were OK with the curtain call. I was not. They are not the boss of me.
Last point - can we lose the narrative that "Pete really wanted to be a Met, but...". BS. Pete wanted the best deal he could get, period. That was clear when he turned down the Mets 7 year offer and hired Boras. This is in no way a criticism. Pete had every right to go for every dollar that he could. That's what Boras does, and nobody does it better. But if he really wanted to be a Met, he'd be a Met.
I agree that Pete probably hoped to play out his career here - under his terms. He wasn't going to make any compromises to make that happen. Which is fine.Pete always loved the fans here and we have loved him. I really do think he had hoped to play out his career here.
And this is what your boy Stearns has created. Even the Mets players were not all that upset.
I totally get the anger with Stearns. HE LIED TO US with his run prevention crap, which was belied by the Polanco signing.Stearns completely alienated the fan base by never offering Pete or even talking to him. Cohen too. Edited to add: This is like the Jerry's running the Jordan Bulls out of Chicago because they thought they were smarter than everyone. Fans will never forgive and forget.
Frankly, he was pissed but managed to keep it professional. I cant imagine he was alone in that.![]()
Sean Manaea not thrilled with ‘crazy’ reaction by Mets fans to Pete Alonso home run
Former fan favorites usually receive warm welcomes when they return to their former locale but Alonso’s return has deviated quite far from the norm.nypost.com
Stearns and Cohen never spoke with Alonso personally. They never even made an offer. They didn't want him or show him the respect he earned in the 10 years he was with the organization.I totally get the anger with Stearns. HE LIED TO US with his run prevention crap, which was belied by the Polanco signing.
But where do you get that Stearns never spoke to Alonso? Maybe not to him personally, but of course Stearns and/or Cohen spoke to Boras. Boras speaks to everybody. That's kinda his job. Boras no doubt told the Mets what he told everybody - he wanted six years (ultimately settling for five). Mets no doubt said good luck with that, if it doesn't work out come back and see us, JUST LIKE YOU DID LAST YEAR.
Also, where do you get that fans will never forgive and forget? Maybe not forget, but they always forgive. All it takes is winning. Hell, was there ever an ownership less popular than the Dolans? Knick fans have happily forgiven. As John Madden once said, "Winning is the best deodorant".
And while we're at it, here are some pitchers who have recently attained win milestones as a Met:As the Lindor 300 HR countdown continues - Gary Cohen posed the question: how many players have hit HR #300 as a Met?
The answer is six: Dave Kingman, George Foster, Gary Carter, Mike Piazza, Mo Vaughn, and Curtis Granderson.
Two players have hit #400 as a Met: Duke Snider and Carlos Delgado.
Gary Sheffield hit #500 as a Met.
If memory serves, and it does, Alonso had THREE opportunities to be a Met in 2026, and bypassed them all.In-Shape Pete goes yard again. He's such a good player and a fan favorite. Why did the Mets dump him? Doesn't make sense.
Hey T2K, has there EVER been a high profile player more soft than Judge? Again with another injury, really?In-Shape Pete goes yard again. He's such a good player and a fan favorite. Why did the Mets dump him? Doesn't make sense.
Please don't let the troll, troll you.If memory serves, and it does, Alonso had THREE opportunities to be a Met in 2026, and bypassed them all.
1) 7 year offer end of 2023 - Declined
2) 3 year offer in 2025 - Declined. Instead accepted a 2 year offer with an opt out.
3) Opted out in 2026.
So, who dumped whom?

HOF??? You cannot be serious. Mets HOF maybe Pete is a good hitter but he is no where close to a HOFer and would need to have some amazing years the next couple to be considered (he is 32 already).Going back to Pete...In hindsight, his turning down 7-$158 ended up the right financial decision for him. But, I also think that he really thought the Met's would try their best to keep him here. Over those 7 years- he has now made an extra $47 mil...Keep in mind- the year this offer was made was 46 HR/118 RBI
The next contract- was after a somewhat down year of 34/88 - but, Pete still had his magic moment. I heard people say that now, Met's fans wanted him gone. That is untrue- what Met fans felt was that we were resigned that he is most likely gone.
But he hit a stale market because of analytics, which is how Stearns lives.
Met's offer the 2 year with the opt out- and everyone- both sides knew that this opt out was going to be used. Pete would have to have a disastrous season for him to stay on that contract.
He had another monster year, and EVERYONE knew he was going to opt out. And the Mets/Stearns throw the run prevention and how we never win with Pete...to throw as much shade as possible at the guy. Oh year- selfish in the clubhouse, doesn't get along with other important players such as Lindor, etc.
And they do not even attempt to make any offer to Pete at all.
Balt comes in and gives the 5/155 and shows him respect and opens their arms to him.
Do you really thing he was just going to say- oh no, I want to be a Met- "I'm going to turn down $155mil for 5 years and stay with the guy bad mouthing me and also have to go through this again next year"
Anyone saying Pete turned his back on the Met's is a complete idiot. It is that simple.
And Pete is right, he will be getting his HOF plaque while Stearns is going through his analytics. And the worst part of it- I bet he goes in with a bird on his hat.
Incorrect on both counts.Love Stearns hates Pete
got it
Best thing about the season ending will be seeing less of the redundant posts from that guy. At least Doug is not as incessant.Incorrect on both counts.
@Zak57 was right. Shouldn't have let myself be baited into responding to a troll.
Anyway, I am done with this topic. Ten games left to finish strong. Then on to an off-season and inevitable lockout, which will inevitably end. Hope springs eternal. As the saying goes, the Good Lord puts our eyes in front, and not in back, for a reason.![]()
