We will know the answer to your question exactly five days after the World Series ends, which is the deadline for Bichette to opt-out.

I doubt Rojas will be on the Opening Day roster. I expect he will be up at some point though.

Mets have Rojas, Reimer, Voit, and Pitre all vying for infield jobs. Plus Stafura (whom the Mets obviously love) maybe a year behind. Then a third wave of Pena and Asigen a year or so later. Plus there's Amick, who IMO is an X factor. The quantity is there. We'll see about the quality.

It will be interesting to see what the Mets do with Baty, Vientos, and Mauricio, all of whom are arbitration eligible. My guess is that Vientos and Mauricio will be non-tendered. Baty will stay as a utility guy. He is the only one who can still be optioned to the minors, which makes him more valuable.

My view is different and maybe a bit contrarian. I fully agree that Pete deserved the long, warm ovation he got before his first at-bat. But when he stepped into the box, he became the opposition. I am a "name on the front of the shirt" guy. I'm too old to get too invested in the names on the back of the shirt. I've seen too many of them come and go.

I don't care if Keith and Ron were OK with the curtain call. I was not. They are not the boss of me.

Last point - can we lose the narrative that "Pete really wanted to be a Met, but...". BS. Pete wanted the best deal he could get, period. That was clear when he turned down the Mets 7 year offer and hired Boras. This is in no way a criticism. Pete had every right to go for every dollar that he could. That's what Boras does, and nobody does it better. But if he really wanted to be a Met, he'd be a Met.

Pete always loved the fans here and we have loved him. I really do think he had hoped to play out his career here.

And this is what your boy Stearns has created. Even the Mets players were not all that upset.

Stearns and Cohen getting what they deserve !

You can’t be tone deaf with your fan base with what happened with Pete and then furthermore put out the garbage they did this year with this team !

Also- let's be honest- we are already done for the season. Wins do not mean a damn thing and most of those fans were there only to see Pete hit number 300.

I also bet that if Lindor came up in the bottom of the inning and won it with his 300- the stadium would have went bonkers for him.

Stearns completely alienated the fan base by never offering Pete or even talking to him. Cohen too. Pete was the face of the organization, homegrown talent, great in the community, and since 2019 had the most RBIs and games played, and 2nd most HRs, yet they didn't even bother talking to him. The Mets wasted insane amounts of $ on many crappy players that never performed, yet they wouldn't offer their great homegrown talent to keep him in NY. They disrespected him, made up some BS "run prevention" excuse and alienated the fan base. They'll never live that down.

Edited to add: This is like the Jerry's running the Jordan Bulls out of Chicago because they thought they were smarter than everyone. Fans will never forgive and forget.

I agree that Pete probably hoped to play out his career here - under his terms. He wasn't going to make any compromises to make that happen. Which is fine.

As to the "we have loved him"... this is 2026. We know the rules of the game, or should I say the business. If we love an individual player and we get our hearts broken, it's nobody's fault but our own. This has been true in pro sports for years. Sadly, it is now also true in college.

I totally get the anger with Stearns. HE LIED TO US with his run prevention crap, which was belied by the Polanco signing.

But where do you get that Stearns never spoke to Alonso? Maybe not to him personally, but of course Stearns and/or Cohen spoke to Boras. Boras speaks to everybody. That's kinda his job. Boras no doubt told the Mets what he told everybody - he wanted six years (ultimately settling for five). Mets no doubt said good luck with that, if it doesn't work out come back and see us, JUST LIKE YOU DID LAST YEAR.

Also, where do you get that fans will never forgive and forget? Maybe not forget, but they always forgive. All it takes is winning. Hell, was there ever an ownership less popular than the Dolans? Knick fans have happily forgiven. As John Madden once said, "Winning is the best deodorant".

If the Mets were in a playoff race you cheer his first AB then treat him like the enemy.

but the season is long over, they never should have let Alonso go.

these guys are all multi millionaires

so out of disdain for the Mets season and management, sure..root for the opponent/ it does let really matter in a meaningless game and maybe sends a message to management that their effort is not bit good enough

so stop whining over the curtain call. I think it’s hilarious and you know what / good on Alonso - guy was THE METS / team USA good have used his heart in the WBC and instead they went with Goldy? Never will get that one either

Random thoughts:
  1. I remember the Piazza curtain call well, so this was far from unprecedented.
  2. This wasn’t the likes of Cedric Mullins taking a curtain call, but the team’s all time HR leader for goodness sake.
  3. Team sucks - first must watch ABs for me since April. Count me as one of the ones hoping he went yard.
  4. He actually did the Mets a solid in trying to land a top 6 pick. Winning is only detrimental at this point.
  5. Hopefully pushes the Smirker even closer to being out the door.
  6. Felt right that #300 was hit here
  7. Would have been nice if Lindor also hit #300

Stearns and Cohen never spoke with Alonso personally. They never even made an offer. They didn't want him or show him the respect he earned in the 10 years he was with the organization.

Judge came very close to booking to San Fran a couple years ago. Are you telling me the Yankees fans wouldn't have given him a standing ovation and a curtain call if he hit say a #600 HR?
