Similar yet slightly different question: would Gavin have thrown as many interceptions as AJ and Dylan have had in only one game each...

Gavin was RU's Pat White (4500 yds and 47 TDs rushing in 4 years at WV) who got stuck with short pass (OL could not block for long passes GS said) to bad/small WRs (worst in 20 years). Alas GW was really strong rushing into pile-ups and great in the bootie shoves. He did get RU's QB TD rush record, Defenses had to respect that he could gallop 50 yds on them. Duff would have made Wimsatt much better. With his running skills and better WR I'll bet he could have beat BU. GW never had 4 INTs in one game. GW wasn't a pro set QB but Pat White wasn't either;

Lead paint chips or dropped on your head as a baby?
Very athletic QB’s can beat mediocre teams. They are high floor but low ceiling if they’re not a good passer and GW was not a good passer.
Getting bad QB play in an unimaginative offense gives you a low floor…like a 1-11 season kinda floor.

Indiana 2023 - he had 3rushing TDs (one for 80 yards) in a game vs Indiana. He was the only RU player to score TDs in a 31-14 win that made RU bowl eligible and gave Wimsatt got the RU single game QB rushing record

Wimsatt runs for 3 TDs, Rutgers bowl eligible after 31-14 win over Indiana

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- — Gavin Wimsatt ran for three touchdowns and 143 yards as Rutgers became bowl eligible with a 31-14 road victory over Indiana on Saturday.

The Scarlet Knights (6-2, 3-2 Big Ten) equaled their best start since 2012 and tied a program record for conference wins.

“This is a big, big step for the program, there’s no doubt about it,” Rutgers coach Greg Schiano said to players in the locker room. “It’s been a while since this program has been bowl eligible.?”..

Wimsatt scored twice on 1-yard sneaks in the first half, then the junior quarterback broke free on an 80-yard TD run for the game’s final points early in the fourth quarter. His 143 yards rushing are a school record for a quarterback."

Wimsatt was also top point maker with 2 TDs in the bowl win over Miami in 2023. Monongai had the only other offensive TD in a 31-24 win. The only other TD was by TImmy Ward who recovered a blocked kick in the end zone

LOL, you didn't watch the Indiana game & are just looking at the final stats with no context otherwise you'd know that Monangai was the workhorse in that game.

Wimsatt had that 80 yd TD run in the 4th quarter when Indiana's defense was gassed that made his stats look deceiving. 5/12 for 39 yds wasn't "winning the game". Kyle did the work but Gavin got the artificial praise.

Monangai was the workhorse in that game.

The problem is that this team doesn't have Monangai-level elite RB, it doesn't have an OL that can create the holes for an average RB, and therefore can't wear down the opposing defense to pull away in the 4th quarter. That's been the Schiano formula and he just hasn't been able to build a team that can do that last season or now.

But Indiana sucks and will never be good at the oblong-ball game.🤣

No because he wasn’t a dual threat. He couldn’t pass. And wasn’t really that great of a runner.

It does beg the question though. Dual threat QBs have been eating Schianos lunch for 30 years. Why isnt he smart enough to get one?

Monangai didn't score - he was compact and his weak spot was running on goal where he got stuffed a lot (which is why coaches had Wimsatt do it)
Fact is Wimsatt had 3 TDs including an 80yd run for an RU record 143 yds (Mononagai had 109). No rational person can can say Wimsatt was some chump getting lucky against a bad team.

You're proving my point of reading the headline and didn’t see the game.

Without Kyle, Gavin doesn’t get two 1 yd scores. Kyle got a lot of the needed yards because Gavin was dog 💩 passing the ball. Gavin was literally under 100 all purpose yds for the game until that late run. He didn’t win the game, he just got the headline. Kyle & the defense won that game which was basically every win that year.

But nobody else scored. If they sucked so bad more guys would have had TDs. Can't expect a lot of TDs from WRs where Dremel was #1 guy. He wasn't a B1G starter. Wimsatt's completion % would have gone up another 12% with real WRs like Duff/Strong/Black. People dont get that the good WRs catch the ugly balls others cant. They all throw ugly balls

LMAO, Gavin couldn’t hit the ocean from an island. He should have been converted to WR once they realized he couldn’t pass.

Next up, you’ll tell us Kyle Flood was a good coach.

I wanted to make a joke about defending champion Indiana (still likely the losing-est college program in history).

I said Gavin wasn’t a good passer…so no argument there.
Haven’t had a true dual threat QB since Mike McMahon probably…
…and Ray Lucas before that.

He was actually a good long ball thrower but RU wouldn't do those because (GS said) the OL couldn't block for long passes. Some pitchers are best at fastballs some are curves some at sinkers and QBs are the same. Gavin was a lanky long baller. Plus long balls are often contested balls and no Wimsatt WRs could do those.

Here's a pass that hits the barista in the hands but not only could he not catch it but he got rag-dolled - not the guy you will send long.

Here is a legit B1G WR climbing the ladder to get a ball a lot of WR would miss and he also got 5 YACs in heavy traffic. Dremel could never do that but he was GWs #1.

More tough Duff putting a DB on the carpet to catch a 75 yd TD pass. Not something a 2023 WR could do

They are just a few games behind Rutgers. Keep in mind Indiana has been in the Big Ten since 1900., Imagine RU's record in B1G for 125 yrs! RU cant sneer at anybody.

AI Overview

Most All-Time Losses in FBS
    • Northwestern Wildcats: 717 losses
    • Indiana Hoosiers: 714+ losses
    • Rutgers Scarlet Knights: 708 losses

If it were about the WRs he should have played much better when he went to Kentucky. There was no improvement.

He wasn’t a P4 QB in the slightest and should have moved to another position. Continuing to argue in his favor just shows how out of touch you are with his career.
