For whatever reason with tennis I am not a USA first fan.The good news tomorrow is an American has to win lol
Me either...I root for the best players because I want to see matches like we saw today and will see Saturday. Tomorrow is meh for me honestly. Sasha probably wins easily and I'm not sold Ben or Tiafoe can actually beat him. Though I didn't think Ben could beat a rusty Carlos so....For whatever reason with tennis I am not a USA first fan.
I’m actually thinking Shelton can get it done and win the championship.Me either...I root for the best players because I want to see matches like we saw today and will see Saturday. Sabalenka had 8 break opportunities and converted 3. Pegula had one break opportunity and converted zero. Pegula's second serve was terrible. She only won 24% of points on her second serve overall and just 20% of the points on her second serve in the second set. Sabalenka won 76% of her second serve points. In the second set Sabalenka had her pinned way back behind the baseline while Pegula continued to leave the ball just behind the service line allowing Sabalenka to tee off on her forehand. This isn't true. Pegula was great tonight but Sabalenka was basically perfect. Pegula plays like she did tonight she beats anyone else in the game. She actually showed great power tonight if you watched it.
For me if there's a WTA event and ATC event happening at the same time, I'll watch the WTA matches first. For me the must watch matches on the ATP currently would have either Sinner or Alcaraz (or both). There are a couple of younger players in the ATP that could also begin to get more of my attention with one being Rafael Jodar.Me either...I root for the best players because I want to see matches like we saw today and will see Saturday. No one in the world had a shot against Sabalenka last night. Jess was better than Coco or Rybakina last nightSabalenka had 8 break opportunities and converted 3. Pegula had one break opportunity and converted zero. Pegula's second serve was terrible. She only won 24% of points on her second serve overall and just 20% of the points on her second serve in the second set. Sabalenka won 76% of her second serve points. Jess is solid and steady but when she's playing the best at their best she doesn't have much of a shot.
Been some great tennis tonightOkay--tonight I'm going to with Shelton is more annoying than likeable thus far but he's definitely the better
We'll see...hopefullyShelton has a good chance to end the drought for US men in majors on Sunday.
Yeah Ben had some incredible shot last night. Long rallies! Just when you thought the point was over they would get to the ball and keep playing. I was pulling for Francis but congrats to Ben. He earned it. Will need more of the same, and some breaks, against Zverev.Shelton has a good chance to end the drought for US men in majors on Sunday.
I like both Aryna and Elena so I won't be disappointed either way. Regarding Sasha vs. Ben, I'm not sure but think I'll end up pulling for Ben. IMO Sasha is only in his 3rd straight final because of injuries and illness for the top two players. Granted he has taken full advantage of the opportunity.Rooting for Sabalenka and....probably Sasha--so bet heavily on Ben & Rybakina
Sabalenka's emotions have got the best of her so far--that needs to change if she's going to win. Both players going big on the second serves. High level tennis.
I’m seeing three sets.Sabalenka's emotions have got the best of her so far--that needs to change if she's going to win.
Hope so--Sabalenka's playing about her C game so that's going to have to improve. They both started strong but since 2-2 it hasn't been great tennis IMOI’m seeing three sets.
Neither player is backing down as much on second serves. Aryna is the champion and I’m expecting she’ll win the second set, but Elena is striking the ball at such a high level. This is the worst I've ever seen Rybakina serve and Sabalenka just can't take advantage
Going to be tough to comeback in this one if her return game doesn't greatly improve
Good call on it going 3I’m seeing three sets.
I’m a fan of both. But Elena is such an introvert I can’t help but favor her. It's fitting Rybakina is going to win after taking over the #1 ranking
Sabalenka had her chances in the first set when Rybakina couldn't make a first serve to save her life but just couldn't take over
Rybakina was just a bit better today--we'll see if she can finish but confident she will
She's one of the most popular people on tour lolNice win by Elena. It's really hard to root for Sabalenka.
Half of that is an exaggeration but, again, you do realize she's one of the most popular players on tour, right? What's not to like? She's always been a head case under-performing her abilities. Today, her tantrums, unable to control her emotions as the favorite, smashing her racket, barely acknowledging her opponent after losing, that terrible look during the trophy presentation and then yelling at the camera man? Yeah she's a peach.
She's currently getting roasted for her post match interview.Half of that is an exaggeration but, again, you do realize she's one of the most popular players on tour, right?
You can dislike her while acknowledging that
This happened when she lost to Coco as well....its by people that dont actually follow tennis for the most part. People getting roasted on social media is meaningless. She's currently getting roasted for her post match interview.
I attended the semis and was surprised Sabalenka had some support versus Jessie from the crowd. Much more than Rybakina against CoCo.What's not to like? When I was younger and competing in various sports I was always taught to be gracious in defeat, and for some time looked down on these post match tantrums. But you know what....I never won jack sh&t. These elite players and champions HATE losing.....and while I'd prefer they be a bit more gracious, it is that intense desire to win and hate of losing that drives them to be the best. As long as they show some respect to the athlete that beat them, I'm fine with the outbursts and sour demeanor during interviews after. She's currently getting roasted for her post match interview.
She's probably the most popular player on tour right now. Coco is also in that discussion and Eala is going to be as wellI attended the semis and was surprised Sabalenka had some support versus Jessie from the crowd. Much more than Rybakina against CoCo.
