Gonna need a whole lot more defense than today to make it close. The secondary was a sieve this afternoon. And running game defense was not as tight as it will need to be next week.
Both starting CB’s were held out today from being dinged up. The defense was really vanilla and I’d expect more blitzes and stunts next week. Afari only played a handful of snaps as well. I believe the Cats have the weapons to put pressure on Alabama and the defense will have to step it up! I would take the 10.5 and bet the Cats!

Did Afari play yesterday? I didn’t think he did.

We were missing two starting CB's yesterday and Stein said we chose to give up some in the passing game to limit their QB's ability to run the ball. Stopping Bama will be a huge challenge obviously but I wouldn't draw too much from yesterdays defensive performance. I realize it was an FCS opponent but YSU is one of the better ones offensively and we did limit them to around 300 total yards.

Yeah I read more about that news later in the responses after I had already replied.

It will be tough but I have more confidence in this team to at least make it fun than any Stoops team.

More confidence in them than the 2018 or 2021 teams for example? I'm definitely not going that far with it at this point but the Oline shows a lot of promise as long as they can stay healthy.

Everyone talks about the offense going vanilla today to save for Bama. It's possible the defense could have been doing the same thing. I mean the game could have easily been 50-0 I'm sure.

Our defense was way out of position on many snaps. That isnt a playbook issue, its a discipline issue. It was shockingly bad and did nothing to quell my concerns about Bateman.

If we don't get it fixed, expect to get gashed by qb run game.

We held Youngstown's running QB to 2.4 yards a carry on 12 attempts. But he got us good through the air. I am worried about the pass defense

Am I only one that’s seeing the o/u 48 and thinking it’ll be over before the 4th starts?

Think of how we played an even better Texas team last season at home with a poor offensive coordinator. I like our odds to win not just to cover.

Our defense needs to fix a lot of crap before I'm ready to proclaim "we want Bama!"

Missed assignments against St. Tom's Technical College and Bistro is fine. Missed assignments against an SEC opponent is basically a guaranteed touchdown.

I posted the missed assignments concerns in other threads. We were way out of position on qb run all game and it will absolutely kill us this week unless we really shore that up.

That isnt a talent issue. Its a coaching issue. I am not yet sold on this defensive staff at all.
