This is what i thought last years' opener would look like.

Well said; they looked exactly the way you want them to look in an early season game against an overmatched opponent.
No one thinks Campbell is the next Nick Saban or Joe Paterno or Kirby Smart because we won today
No one thinks beating Marshall means we're elite
What we saw today was an offense that relied on execution not gimmicks, a defense that was prepared and disciplined all while absolutely dominating a team we should dominate. There was a lot of positives to take from today. I still think this is a 9-3 team if things play out as expected but I like how Campbell prepared the team and that's a positive moving forward. And I'm thankful James is gone--not because he's a bad coach but because it was time.

The only time all day that I thought MC was being stupid was going for 4th & 1 deep in his own territory--I still think that was stupid even though we converted but there only being one example is impressive
Oh wait--I didn't like the drive we came out and ran Peoples three straight times including 3rd & medium as I felt that was done intentional to prove we could. Still this is way better than the typical Franklin game when half of his decisions lacked logic last year

This team looked disciplined today; hopefully, it is just how the season continues and they reach their potential.
Was Campbell quasi - recruiting Marshall’s nose tackle after the game? 
Man, reading comprehension is very lacking on this board. The post was referring to people who questioned whether these guys could compete in the Big Ten (I have never been one of those people), my response was that this game isn’t going to answer those questions- they have to be answered against conference opponents.
I didn't watch (no cable) but listened to the radio broadcast by Steve Jones/Jack Ham. They are adept at letting the listeners know about substitutions and there were many. By my unofficial count, I checked off over 75 players getting PT and many of the second & third teamers received some good reps. That was pleasing. Looking forward to watching this team in person next Saturday in Philly. Perhaps Burkle (TE) and Tatsch (LBer) will be ready for some reps and Jeremiah Cooper (Safety) will be able to play a few more series.
It's hard to judge the RBs from today because Marshall was clearly selling out to stop the run, daring Becht to beat them, which he did.
Hansen is clearly the #1 guy in the rotation, but is he the best? That is still to be determined.
I think what he's done at the college level has proven that, as of this moment, he should be RB1--if someone starts outperforming him on the field that can change things but he was also the most productive today--only back that averaged over 4 a carry. He was a half yard a carry better than the other 3

The posters who hated Franklin looked at every game and harped on what was wrong, now that he’s gone, everything is great. Same thing with Joe…reading this board one would think Joe never lost a game. It just gets tiresome.
And pretty soon those people will bash MC all game long--I think they're consistent to be honest though I don't disagree it's tiresome
But we're also going to have people praising Franklin all year for no reason at all
I liked the call…we were up 17-0…had they scored I still think we would have been fine, so why not try it out in a time where there was some pressure. They may have to do it at some point.

I just don’t think there’s a need to bash Franklin continuously and post as if he never did anything right. You’re the only one that I saw that posted anything negative about going for it on fourth down…this board would have been filled with posts bashing Franklin had he done the same thing (he’s so desperate against a weaker opponent that he has to go for it on fourth down). And you’re right, many on here will turn on him after the first loss or close game to a weaker opponent.

To be fair, Franklin had an NFL caliber pocket passer that he ran zone-read with--not even RPO--zone read and designed a gimmick offense around him. There's a lot of reasons people could have watched today's game and criticized Franklin's past decisions--especially last year. Now, if people are still mentioning Franklin in 2028 for example that's crazy but last year's failures are fresh
Maybe .. I just don't see it. Hansen looked the best and had the best numbers today. Hansen had the best yards per carry, the longest run and is the by far the best in protection. I think 3 will see playing time but the vet is likely going to be RB1 all year.
The running game was simply plain vanilla and unremarkable. Think that might have been by design.
The Run Blocking early on today was unremarkable doubt that was by design but got better as the game went on.
TE's were obviously not going to be a big part of the Receiving Corp today which was a bright spot.
I was disappointed by the push of the DT's at times today.
This team has a lot to work on this week. BUT the fact that they came out and generally played so well together and cheered and celebrated successes having never played a game together before was enormous imo.
MC has this team together and focused

If you don't think there is a question they can compete in the B10 then they can compete in the B10. Yet you say this game does not answer that soooo they always could compete in the B10. Your weasel post implies we have to wait until the B10 season to see if they can compete.
I didn’t like the decision at the time but maybe MC felt the game was going well enough that it was worth the risk to give the offense a bit of a higher pressure test.
For the people who question whether they can, not me….jeesh, it’s like explaining things to Rain Man.
