QB Battle: Jeremy Hecklinski appears to have passed Hank Brown on the Depth Chart. QB was NOT a Transfer Portal Priority per KF on Dec 18

Yes. That dude and crew almost made me puke twice inside kinnick. The extra field goal try for UNI and the hold call on Wegher's run against NW
Its been awhile but the extra field goal try for UNI was the right call I believe. Didn't they kick that on third down and recover the ball?

Iowa beat a dreadful Albany team last year 34-7.

I can’t see them, given the QB carousel, doing better than that against a better opponent for this years opener. I can’t see a 20-10 type of game.

I think you might be forgetting that Gronowski was absolutely dreadful that day going 8-15 for 44 yards. As an aside, as dreadful as that performance was, I don't think there was a ton of boos. That pretty much eliminates the possibility of it happening this weekend to either Heck or Brown. Although it's also a possibility that the crowd was so completely stunned by how bad he looked that they didn't know whether to boo or cry. So there's that...

Best Fan tip for Tomorrow is have a lot of + 5% beer on hand, If the Iowa QBs and Team for that matter be usual early season Iowa and forge an ugly win ( I really cannot see them losing but stranger things have happened ) or they make NIU look as bad as they should be on paper You are prepared for either outcome because no matter what kind of Day it is cold beer like a Day at the golf course is never a bad play

Good points. MG had an awful day. I had a great view in the stadium of that early drive 20 yard pass to wide open receiver in end zone that fell 10 yards short.

Correct. They kicked on 3rd down and the ball never crossed the line of scrimmage. So they were able to regain possession and have another play on 4th down.

It was one of those things that tests your knowledge of the rules. Players are always taught to stay away from a blocked kick or punt if it bounces downfield. A kicked ball which crosses the line of scrimmage (whether it's a punt or placekick) dies unless touched by the defense. (as we often see on punts). If they DO touch it, it's live and the offense can recover.

What Iowa's players didn't realize is that when the ball stays behind the line of scrimmage the offense hasn't "given up possession" with the kick and can recover it themselves.

It sounds kind of counterintuitive, but this actually makes me think that Hecklinski is the one they think has the best chance to play/play better. It's going to be way harder to go back to Brown after Hecklinski's stint, unless Hecklinski doesn't play well. It really feels like the guy playing second is in the position of power, even though he isn't "starting."

I was listening to a podcast…can’t remember which…where they thought the second man would have the advantage over the starter (due to first game jitters and the offense not being fully in sync yet, etc.).

Yippee.

Iowa starting Hank freaking Brown.

Goodness how bad must Jeremy be in practice to have that sort of scrimmage performance and not start?

Tomorrow gonna be interesting. Basically Iowa treating NIU as an exhibition game to audition QBs
No, just splitting time with qbs.

I had a feeling Brown would be the guy.. he's determined to redeem himself.

tremendous chip on his shoulder... that's exactly the kind of guy you want for a QB.

Good spot for Heck , He will see what NIU is doing defensively and Lester will as well , Settle this BS on the field against NIU so QB1 is sorted for ISU , Personally . I will be grilling and drinking canadian beer and making lewd comments at some of the Lady visitors regardless of the game , I did specifically state in the BBQ invites loin cloths were strongly encouraged and pasties get extra consideration points , My luck People will show up dressed like Leisure suit Larry and be wearing Karen glasses

Nope, dead even in scoring the last 3 season openers. 2-3 possession per quarter so each will probably get a quarter.

You know the defense can have jitters too.

I was only relating what I heard someone say on a podcast, in response to greasy's post. Glad you found it funny enough to post a laugh emoji.
