I thought MN DBs were locking up MS WRs. Trey wasn't as accurate last night as he showed previously but man his skill talent looked *** on that team. I don't watch a lot of Nebraska HS football games but skill wise I wasn't very impressed outside of Pittman and Trae at times.

MN QB was very good and very impressive with some of his sideline throws.
MS running backs 7 & 24 were pretty good despite number seven fumbling the ball twice once inside the 5 yard line.
He spiked the ball in the endzone celebrating a long TD catch for one
Not sure about the other
Taunting is such a soft unsportsmanlike penalty. Don’t care if it’s high school, college and ridiculous in the NFL. Come on. Some of the taunting is original and hilarious

Idk I guess "pretty good" is relative. I'm comparing it to skill talent here in SC. Again maybe I was expecting too much. After to listening to all the hype about the 2 top 5 teams I was just a little let down.
Again Trae and Pittman looked as good as anyone I've seen recently. At least talent wise. Trae was a bit off though but the talent is clearly there. I guess nothing else jumped off the page to me. Wanted to see more from the WR from Texas on MS team. The long pass was great of course but I wanted more.

Nebraska HS football overall is poor compared most states. You have at best a handful of teams with Major talent and even then it’s only 1 or two players on a team.
Shoot what part of SC brother?? I’m in the GSP area.
And you can’t compare Nebraska HS football to HS football in the South. It’s a whole different world down here (as you know) and the talent level doesn’t compare.
Definitely wanted to see more from Ellis. He looked like he was going through the motions a lot, but that’s just my impression watching from my phone screen in SC

Yeah that's why I said it's relative based on what you have seen in Nebraska. I haven't seen a lot of Nebraska football other than a few of the bigger games that have been televised the last 4 or 5 years or so. This one was really hyped so I knew I had to watch it.
But like I said it didn't stand out much to me talent wise other than maybe 2-3 guys. I'm used to seeing the higher level games in these parts and it's just a lot more overall "talent" on the field. It's not a knock just simply what I observed.

That might be true. I know fans always get mad at whoever the coach is when he's not taking a lot of in state guys. But when they do take a lot of those guys and they don't pan out at some point I'm guessing coaches start second guessing themselves . There seems to always be a guy or two that goes somewhere else and has success and coaches get killed for it. Like why didn't we get this guy? When he was maybe one out of the last 10 who panned out (random number).
I've always said coaches need to recruit and sign the best players available. I don't care if he's from Nebraska or one of the Dakotas or Wyoming or Miami Florida. Sign the best guys you can get. I've always hated the "he's an in-state guy" stuff. Who cares where he's from can he play ??? For me it gets even more clouded when the kid is a legacy player. So NOW because his dad was good 25 years ago he's even more likely to get an offer.
The fans wanna win at the highest level but SOME wanna settle on some talent that will prevent that from happening. Not just in state either. Just using that as an example right now. Guys suck in Florida, Georgia and California too lol. My point is that some try and justify the in-state guys with some magical love for the team and hidden super powers (sarcasm alert). Just gotta sign the best 18-22 guys you can get from wherever they happen to be. You guys can look at the recruiting list from the past few years and tell we haven't done that in a very long time. Maybe even going back to the Calahan era regardless of the coach.

This works in NCAA Football, but not in real life where culture and intangibles play an oversized role in team success (or failure)

As usual, it helps to ask yourself what it would look like without any taunting penalties. It would quickly get ugly.

Only in Nebraska do people think this is case. Which is a huge part of the problem. I bet you Indiana didn't think that way. You go get "guys" period. If that ends up being 8 guys from instate in a particular year fine. If it ends up being 0 players that should be fine also. Nebraska problem imo is that fans and HS coaches ***** obsessively about the team not recruiting some local "super star" who coaches don't seem good enough. Coaches feel the pressure more times than not and there you have it.

Watch out, you’ll get massacred on here for daring to suggest that Nebraska HS football is a joke compared to a lot, if not most, states. That Millard South team I watched last night wouldn’t be in the top 20 teams in a lot of places, esepcially the south.
I'm okay with taunting / unsportsmanlike conduct being a 15 yard penalty. I just think its silly that it can count towards you being ejected.
@Kakdawg was specifically talking about which state we get our recruits from. That it doesn't matter if they're Nebraska boys or not, just get dudes.
Your response to that implied that it does matter which state we get our recruits from as it helps with culture & other intangibles. Maybe you meant something else outside of recruiting Nebraska boys when you made that comment?

I agree, yesterday during the TCU/NC game, TCU running back made the first down gesture, it was given a penalty for it.
I seen that as freaking ridiculous just by doing that. Players can’t have any fun without be penalized for it.

I didn't see the depth of talent like I see here. I can't speak for other states or further down south or even up north for that matter. But for me it was just "ok they look ok" . Just not earth shattering like I thought based on the conversations I've listened to. Again maybe it was just me setting the bar a little too high.
