Hmm....does this apply to Lane too, or just the rest of the SEC. This will be interesting to watch. 🍿

Does Lane admit defeat and move on? Will a player get a judge to issue an injunction against the SEC's rules?

Even if a player did get an injunction, I would be surprised if a coach was willing to risk the penalties if the case was ultimately decided in the SEC's favor. I don't see this as a hill Lane is willing to die on.

Should have thought of this a long time ago. You can't control what individual players and lawyers do. However, you can control the institutions within your conference. I guess late is better than never.

I can only hope his ego would push him to do something stupid.

Let's hope so. Him backing off would at least make other coaches think twice before trying it.

Has the B10 issued similar rules?

I'm not a lawyer, but I think it might be hard for a player to sue to block the conference from putting rules on the members of the conference. The SEC is placing no restrictions on the player, he can say he wants to go back to college and is free to go to any college that will sign him. The penalties are on the coach and the athletic program at the school.

You also have the nugget that LSU/Kiffin may have interfered with the contractual rights of NFL teams.

The players' attorney said the SEC's and Big 10's rulings have put the NCAA in contempt of court orders.

50% season suspension for head coach
50% of the sport's operating budget
SEC voting privileges on business matters revoked
Does this mean Carolina basketball loses 50% of its operating budget and Paris is suspended for half the season because he signed 3 players from European pro leagues? Or do the new SEC rules specifically apply to the NFL and not other pro leagues?

Good question.

From this article, it looks like European pros are okay.

The policy, which also applies to men's and women's basketball, prohibits an athlete from playing for an SEC member program if they previously declared for the NFL, NBA or WBNBA drafts and did not withdraw from them, signed a professional contract or had been listed on a professional roster.

I would think a lawyer would have something to say about banning some pro players and not others.

Louisianna governor has come out to criticize the SEC's new rule. He asks how the situation is any different than Pavia be granted an extra year.

Setting aside for the moment that I fully disagree with Pavia's extra year, surely the governor can't be this dumb. Surely he sees the difference between a guy who is still playing college football being told he can play college football a while longer and a guy is taking snap in an NFL game returning to play college football.

Governors can be that dumb, i.e. McTaxster
Narratives can cause this loss of common sense.

He voted for the rule. Who is the ultimate power in Baton Rouge?
