I think it was against East Rutherford or RS Central, one of the Rutherford schools. They said the Hendersonville front struggled on offense and defense.

I decided to make the trip down from Candler to watch Hendersonville and West Henderson. The game went about how I thought it would, the score doesn’t indicate how close the game was. It was a dog fight and physical. West controlled the line of scrimmage but did about everything they could to give the game away. Fumble at the Bearcat 1 yard line, fumble at the Bearcat 15 yard line, interception in Bearcat territory, stalled drives, more penalties than one could count. Hendersonville’s athletes are the real deal, their OL played better than I thought they would and they made just enough big plays when they needed one. All in all, both teams are good and should do well this season. West is physical and big up front, moved the ball well when they weren’t self destructing. Hendersonville has speed and big play ability. I don’t think anyone is going to be able to match up with Hendersonville in the WHC. If West can clean up the penalties and turnovers, they’ll make some noise in the Mountain 8.

After tonight, I think their line is serviceable. Hendersonville is trying to get their athletes in space as quickly as possible, anyway. A lot of jet sweeps, screens, etc, essentially plays that don’t require complex blocking schemes and needing to hold up for extended periods of time. They do need to stay healthy, I didn’t see much if any depth up front and a couple lineman ended up on the sideline.

Having said that, congratulations to the young men for stepping up after the half and playing much better. Full steam ahead.
