I wonder how Lincoln Charter starting football will effect Cherryville long term. Is McDowell awful again this year?

McDowell is pretty bad but also dealing with major injuries. Best OL who was all conference is out a few more weeks. Starting RB was out last week and unlikely to play this week. And one of their best defensive backs is out for the season.

Mitchell will run all over them.

I think Hendersonville at West is going to be more competitive than you think. I think Hendersonville has major concerns along the line of scrimmage, I think West is better than we all thought coming into this year.

You could be right. They will have to play ball control, though, because Hendersonville's passing game is legit.

[radioguy16]

Is Avery that bad? I know Hampton TN kept them shutout for 3 Qts last week but Hampton is always pretty solid. They would prob do the same if Hampton played Patton

That coach at West does a great job.

I heard Hampton is down this year.

I am still debating whether I want to go see Asheville vs Dobyns-Bennett or Hendersonville vs West. A friend of mine saw Hendersonville in the preseason. I think it was against East Rutherford or RS Central, one of the Rutherford schools. They said the Hendersonville front struggled on offense and defense.

It was RS Central who is actually pretty darn good.

Didn't they fire their coach last year and the community rallied to bring him back? Or am I thinking of some other team?

WOW. That is def not good. I know the HC situation was a wild one because he was no longer HC then returned it all seemed rocky to say the least

Kids at Avery do have options, you have 2 best coaches in nc very close , Pittman mitchell coach and watauga coach

Very true. Not to mention if they have family just over in TN Hampton and such is always good too for the most part

Agree with you about hendo. You are not going win western highlands with poor line play. Would not be surprise if west beats them.

I decided to make the trip down from Candler to watch Hendersonville and West Henderson. The game went about how I thought it would, the score doesn’t indicate how close the game was. It was a dog fight and physical. West controlled the line of scrimmage but did about everything they could to give the game away. Fumble at the Bearcat 1 yard line, fumble at the Bearcat 15 yard line, interception in Bearcat territory, stalled drives, more penalties than one could count. Hendersonville’s athletes are the real deal, their OL played better than I thought they would and they made just enough big plays when they needed one. All in all, both teams are good and should do well this season. West is physical and big up front, moved the ball well when they weren’t self destructing. Hendersonville has speed and big play ability. I don’t think anyone is going to be able to match up with Hendersonville in the WHC. If West can clean up the penalties and turnovers, they’ll make some noise in the Mountain 8.

Hendersonville has speed, but if your line sucks it doesn't matter. Last year heard same thing about their speed, heritage go out their runs ball down their throat leaves with w.

After tonight, I think their line is serviceable. Hendersonville is trying to get their athletes in space as quickly as possible, anyway. A lot of jet sweeps, screens, etc, essentially plays that don’t require complex blocking schemes and needing to hold up for extended periods of time. They do need to stay healthy, I didn’t see much if any depth up front and a couple lineman ended up on the sideline.

[Appvol]

I heard Hampton is down this year.

The one time transfer portal that TN passed was good to Hampton. The kid that started most of the season for Elizabethton at QB plus a few other kids from Besty went to Hampton. A kid from Avery went. Hampton is really good this year

Tell you how I see things in western highlands, mitchell has already played charlotte latin, latin has better skill players then hendo , good line , better defense their runningback getting d 1 looks so is their qb. Mitchell could have won that game mistakes kill them. Watch hendo on film they can score , can they stop Physical line , west is decent good win. We will find out when they roll into ledger, I like mitchell chances

[wncbowhunter]

While the second half last night was better, after the first half…. UGH. Not sure if the young men were over confident, over looked McDowell or what… But UGH….. Mitchell will definitely have to have a better effort ( closer to last week) to upend Hendo or Heritage.

Having said that, congratulations to the young men for stepping up after the half and playing much better. Full steam ahead.
as always

Honestly that first half , worst performance mitchell probably ever played. They act like game was over . Heard Pittman tore into them, they came out just dominated mcdowell. You can tell by 4th quarter, mcdowell didn't want none .
