These guys actually played in the NFL.Court ruling allowed players who weren't drafted a 5th year of eligibility.

Technically yes, but just a preseason game (and not a whole one at that) , and had only signed a preseason contract. These guys actually played in the NFL.

I believe this ruling currently applies to 16 players.
They still played professional football and were paid to do it. I can sort of see the truly undrafted players who never played a down of any kind for an NFL team having another year of eligibility. Guys that get paid to play NFL football should not be allowed to return to college football.
I wonder how the "academics" are going to work? Can they reenroll at a school as a freshman? What will the acceptance requirements be?
I don't know about Freshman, maybe they can give them an internship at a driving range. They still played professional football and were paid to do it. They are no longer even pretending college football is an amateur sport.
Consistency is important across all sports. They still played professional football and were paid to do it. If we can sign professional players from European leagues to play for the Gamecocks in basketball, I really don't see how you can exclude NFL players. It's all crazy, I know, but what's the difference?
I think these players are in a unique position. At the time of them entering the NFL, they did not have any college eligibility left. But due to policy changes since then, they now have an additional year.
This shouldn’t be an ongoing issue after this season.
I can't say that I have or will stop following college football. But, I'm clearly past the point of caring how things flow. To me, that's sad. I post on this site because I genuinely like everyone on this site and consider people here as "friends", if that's possible "on-line". I don't agree with everyone here on everything sports-wise, Gamecock-wise, political-wise, etc. But so what? I don't agree with family members on everything. As Spurrier would say, "It is what it is".

I would normally agree. I see that happening here. What concerns me is that we never take a step, then return to normal. We seem to take that step, think this it, then take another step towards lunacy.
I see it as an ongoing issue. Players will leave early for the NFL, after using 3 years of eligibility. Some of those players will not pan out in the NFL after a few seasons. Those players will want to go back to college and get NIL money, so they will claim their 2 remaining years of eligibility. Colleges will become short term landing spots for players who were good enough to be drafted but not good enough to make it in the NFL.I think these players are in a unique position. Sadly, many coaches would go along with it, if it meant winning. There's always a Lane Kiffin type out there.I see it as an ongoing issue. It isn't only Lane and his type. I guarantee you Beamer would snatch up an NFL player if he wanted to come to Carolina. The service academies are probably the only programs that wouldn't take them.
The pressure on coaches to win is incredible, and it should be. They will do whatever they think they need to to win.
I would go so far as to say to say this. If one of the players who was recently ruled eligible, and he expressed a desire to come here, and Beamer declined the fan base would not be happy. It isn't only Lane and his type. The question that must be answered, WWDDO, What would Dabo do?Sadly, many coaches would go along with it, if it meant winning. There's always a Lane Kiffin type out there.
Coming back to college to finish one's degree or pursue another is a good thing. Coming back to school to play varsity sports is something else,Yes, the problem is that it never stops. Some player/players will use this ruling for their own lawsuit to come back to college. It creates a crack.
How much pressure would boosters place on Beamer for this?Sadly, many coaches would go along with it, if it meant winning. There's always a Lane Kiffin type out there.
The Ivies in addition to the service academies. It isn't only Lane and his type. I guarantee you Beamer would snatch up an NFL player if he wanted to come to Carolina. The service academies are probably the only programs that wouldn't take them.

He gets paid $8 million plus/year, right? The pressure would be enormous. I think he felt pressure after last season's debacle resulting in him making some comments about the 2026 season. How much pressure would boosters place on Beamer for this?
