These guys actually played in the NFL.Court ruling allowed players who weren't drafted a 5th year of eligibility.

Technically yes, but just a preseason game (and not a whole one at that) , and had only signed a preseason contract. These guys actually played in the NFL.

I believe this ruling currently applies to 16 players.
They still played professional football and were paid to do it. I can sort of see the truly undrafted players who never played a down of any kind for an NFL team having another year of eligibility. Guys that get paid to play NFL football should not be allowed to return to college football.
I wonder how the "academics" are going to work? Can they reenroll at a school as a freshman? What will the acceptance requirements be?
I don't know about Freshman, maybe they can give them an internship at a driving range. They still played professional football and were paid to do it. They are no longer even pretending college football is an amateur sport.
I agree with you, and extend that to any professional league, e.g., UFL, CFL, etc. They still played professional football and were paid to do it. If we can sign professional players from European leagues to play for the Gamecocks in basketball, I really don't see how you can exclude NFL players. It's all crazy, I know, but what's the difference?
I think these players are in a unique position. At the time of them entering the NFL, they did not have any college eligibility left. But due to policy changes since then, they now have an additional year.
This shouldn’t be an ongoing issue after this season.
I can't say that I have or will stop following college football. But, I'm clearly past the point of caring how things flow. To me, that's sad. I post on this site because I genuinely like everyone on this site and consider people here as "friends", if that's possible "on-line". I don't agree with everyone here on everything sports-wise, Gamecock-wise, political-wise, etc. But so what? I don't agree with family members on everything. As Spurrier would say, "It is what it is".

I would normally agree. I see that happening here. What concerns me is that we never take a step, then return to normal. We seem to take that step, think this it, then take another step towards lunacy.
