I'm not sure what to think about our offensive emphasis this season, but I sense that our offensive line is massive and is expected to be a major strength of the team. Accordingly, with what appears to be a good group of running backs and a mobile quarterback, will we rely heavily on the the run this season ??

Just for reference, I compiled a table of percentage passing plays over the past fifteen (15) seasons, with the resulting records. It seems to suggest we typically win more games relying on the run than the pass. Hopefully, we will have a good, consistent running game this year. GO CATS !!

I think for this particular season, it will be about 45 percent. We are going to want to use our strength on the offensive line with (hopefully) a healthy core of talented running backs. There are some games where Kenny might throw 25 passes and others where he’s gonna have to throw close to 40-45. But I think the average will be about 45/55 in favor of run plays.

I sense kinda the same thing. It will be interesting to see how we do. Of course, there is a ying-yang that relates to the defense. If you cannot stop people and get behind early, typically you are forced to throw more to try to score quicker and catch up.

Thanks for sharing. The stats could be influenced by leading in games- more running plays and trailing in games with more pass plays.
YES !! You are 100% correct, as a deeper dive reveals the nuances of how the seasons unfold. They are GENERAL statistics, but they do suggest that a good, consistent running game increases the prospects for winning games. If they cannot stop your run game, no need to pass.
I'd like us to be good enough to effectively run when we WANT to and successfully pass when we HAVE to !! GO CATS !!

Would be curious to see what Oregon’s percentages were the last few years.

It’ll be interesting If Stein plays to win now and changes things up or is dedicated to installing his system knowing he may take a few more lumps in the process.

I know it's AI ... but FWIW ... interesting to think about and consider:

Oregon football operates a balanced spread offense under head coach Dan Lanning, utilizing a nearly even run-to-pass mix while leaning on high-efficiency passing and quick-strike concepts.

Balanced Philosophy
    • Even Play Distribution: The offense typically splits calls closely between rushing and passing plays, maintaining an adaptable approach rather than forcing a heavy identity into either dimension.
    • High Efficiency Through the Air: Passing attacks under quarterbacks like Bo Nix and Dante Moore focus on high completion percentages, quick reads, screens, and run-pass options (RPOs) rather than slow-developing drop-backs.
    • Setting Up the Ground Game: While explosive passes create chunk yards, establishing a consistent rushing threat remains a foundational priority to keep opposing linebackers and safeties honest.

I'd guess 55/45 run/pass with no other factors, but as others have said, our schedule is tough and I think we will be behind a whole bunch. Therefore, for this year, I think it will probably be somewhere around pass 56/ run 44.

Ppl shouldn't think Stein runs an air raid, he utilizes the run to set up the pass, hence the strong O-Line. But also our receiver core isnt that good this year

From Day #1, I've liked and appreciated him seemingly basing his primary recruiting emphasis on the offensive line. I sure hope it pays off ... !! (y)(y)

I specifically asked Kenny if he was going to air it out all over the field and he said, “definitely.” He sounded serious.
