You know, after thinking about it, the OP has a great point. At many games from other teams, they sing "their" song after the game. The team locks arms and they all serenade the song with the fans. I think it would be a good change.
West Virginia adopted "Take Me Home Country Roads" as their state song in 2014 to go along with 3 other state songs. Kentucky should do the same and give our current racist state song a much needed vacationHell no don't stop. You keep your traditions.
Watching us play W.V. in the college baseball playoffs, I would have thought a team of players hooking arms and singing Take Me Home Country Road would be the hokieest thing ever but it was really pretty cool.
Says the guy that thinks three white guys on the team is too many.West Virginia adopted "Take Me Home Country Roads" as their state song in 2014 to go along with 3 other state songs. Kentucky should do the same and give our current racist state song a much needed vacation

Tradition??? When did they start playing it before the game (granted I've not been to a game in Rupp since before COVID). The tradition is to play it AFTER the game.No. Cool tradition. Beautiful song. Everyone enjoys it.
And I can hear that one guy yell “EVERYBODY” before the chorus from across the stadium. I don’t know who he is. But he’s the hero we need, not deserve.

Before the game. It sucks the life out of the crowd. Play it after the game.
Please don't say we should because it's tradition. Our tradition is a losing one. Let's change it.
That you don't know that it's played before games means your vote is worthless. Stick to your (narrow) lane. When do they play it before the game? I’ve been to dozens of games at Rupp over the years, and can never recall them doing that except on senior night, when it absolutely should be played (and sung) before the game. All other games it should only be played after. It’s a wonderful tune to play as folks are heading home for the night, win or lose. Many fond memories walking out of Rupp into the chilly fall/winter air, and sometimes falling snow, to that song.
What's so dam funny about saying it? Please share.Saying the song is lame. Would expect some attacks. Was just a little humor when I said that.
They were playing it before games in 1966 & ever since. I don't know about 1935.They’ve played it before football games for at least 25 years. I didn’t go to games before that so can’t speak about pre 2002.
Tradition does nothing but hold the world back. Doing something because you’ve always done something is one of the biggest things society gets wrong.
If you read it will explain I reckon. Don't see anybody laughing hysterically. I figured that guy would catch hell for saying what he said. I thought that was kind of funny. Is that good enough for ya bud? What's so dam funny about saying it? Please share.
Our world and culture needs to revert back to tradition quite a bit. Change for the sake of change isn’t a guaranteed improvement. Tradition is usually that way for a reason - it’s stood the test of time.
Damn. All these years I was led to believe we are the winningest college basketball team of all time with 8 National titles. Before the game. It sucks the life out of the crowd. Play it after the game.
Please don't say we should because it's tradition. Our tradition is a losing one. Let's change it.
Change is adaptation which is how the world progresses. Sometimes good, sometimes bad but always forward. Nothing ever improved doing the same thing over and over.
I don’t disagree with what you said. But that’s not the same statement as your original post which is that tradition is dumb and holds the world back. Tradition is the glue that holds societies, cultures, and civilizations together. Without it, there’s no constant that ties together a people or generations. Give up your traditions and you become something different. We’re seeing that in a catastrophic and rapid way in the west now. It’s not a good thing. Change is adaptation =/= tradition is bad.
Anyways, that’s all I say on it. Have the last word if you want.
How's that world progression working out? Circling the drain IMO.Change is adaptation which is how the world progresses. Sometimes good, sometimes bad but always forward. Nothing ever improved doing the same thing over and over.
Don't talk about my Wildcats like that.I'd rather eliminate the football team all together if we want to get rid of "losing" traditions. do they still play god bless america? that one is a waste of time.
This is what I came here to post. I can very clearly remember them playing it after dozens and dozens of home games going all the way back to my first Rupp game in Feb ‘90. Apart from senior nights I can never remember them playing it before a game at all. When do they play it before the game? you should know a lot about being lameThe song is lame. I'm sorry I know it will upset the traditionalists. But there's literally nothing cool about that drab number. It doesn't energize anyone. No one knows the meaning of it. We just need to let it die.

Not gonna swear it didn’t happen without me noticing it. I’m fairly A.D.D. But everything I actually noticed and remember lines up with what you said, and not with the other story.
I do. I know when a song from the 1800s is played out.you should know a lot about being lame
Thank you. That makes it make sense. We are talking about football games.
Foster’s melodic structure, however, makes it sound like other Foster songs (Jeanie and Swanee, for example). The American national anthem is literally set to the tune of a British Drinking Song.
At least My Old Kentucky Home is an entirely original piece of music.

Are you serious? Lord above. The song is lame. I'm sorry I know it will upset the traditionalists. But there's literally nothing cool about that drab number. It doesn't energize anyone. No one knows the meaning of it. We just need to let it die.
Oh good Lord.Tradition does nothing but hold the world back. Doing something because you’ve always done something is one of the biggest things society gets wrong.
yankees from eastern seaboard have bent UK since the 60,s. Why? Cheaper to pay out of state. Tuition at their schools are out of reach for most kids. Not a new thing my friend. It doesn’t connect with the now enormous percentage of out of state students. If you haven’t noticed the huge influx of eastern seaboard Yankees, it’s a real thing, and they should be the ones conforming to the University’s traditions and culture, and not the other way around.
Tradition does nothing but hold the world back. Doing something because you’ve always done something is one of the biggest things society gets wrong.
I beat your under 40 or 30 because the tradition of buying a truck for 40,000,the tradition of fixing your own truck, the ability to survive without a cell phone make tradition you will never understand. Our world and culture needs to revert back to tradition quite a bit. Change for the sake of change isn’t a guaranteed improvement. Tradition is usually that way for a reason - it’s stood the test of time.
That is our song. We're not going to change it and we're not giving it up. It has nothing to do with what players do on the field. Coaches plan and manage. Players make plays. And coach Stein is bringing in the players to get it done. Leave our history alone. Before the game. It sucks the life out of the crowd. Play it after the football game.
Please don't say we should because it's tradition. Our tradition is a losing one. Let's change it.
