Doesn’t the band play OKH after the game? We sing it BEFORE the game and it’s awesome and awesome for our guests to hear and see us united. Love it!
It doesn’t connect with the now enormous percentage of out of state students. If you haven’t noticed the huge influx of eastern seaboard Yankees, it’s a real thing, and they should be the ones conforming to the University’s traditions and culture, and not the other way around.
Pretty sure they only play it before the game on Senior Day/Night unless something changed. Afterwards is perfect.
While MOKH is a part of tradition and will always be, can we at least change the football song. Waka flocka is a goofy rapper. It was kind of fun the first year with that team.

West Virginia adopted "Take Me Home Country Roads" as their state song in 2014 to go along with 3 other state songs. Kentucky should do the same and give our current racist state song a much needed vacation

Tradition??? When did they start playing it before the game (granted I've not been to a game in Rupp since before COVID). The tradition is to play it AFTER the game.
They’ve played it before football games for at least 25 years. I didn’t go to games before that so can’t speak about pre 2002.
That you don't know that it's played before games means your vote is worthless. Stick to your (narrow) lane.
The song is played at the basketball games after the game. It jams the arena to a standstill.

Tradition does nothing but hold the world back. Doing something because you’ve always done something is one of the biggest things society gets wrong.
Our world and culture needs to revert back to tradition quite a bit. Change for the sake of change isn’t a guaranteed improvement. Tradition is usually that way for a reason - it’s stood the test of time.

Change is adaptation which is how the world progresses. Sometimes good, sometimes bad but always forward. Nothing ever improved doing the same thing over and over.

I don’t disagree with what you said. But that’s not the same statement as your original post which is that tradition is dumb and holds the world back. Tradition is the glue that holds societies, cultures, and civilizations together. Without it, there’s no constant that ties together a people or generations. Give up your traditions and you become something different. We’re seeing that in a catastrophic and rapid way in the west now. It’s not a good thing. Change is adaptation =/= tradition is bad.

This is what I came here to post. I can very clearly remember them playing it after dozens and dozens of home games going all the way back to my first Rupp game in Feb ‘90. Apart from senior nights I can never remember them playing it before a game at all.
Not gonna swear it didn’t happen without me noticing it. I’m fairly A.D.D. But everything I actually noticed and remember lines up with what you said, and not with the other story.

This younger generation have no tradition at all.
yankees from eastern seaboard have bent UK since the 60,s. Why? Cheaper to pay out of state. Tuition at their schools are out of reach for most kids. Not a new thing my friend.
I beat your under 40 or 30 because the tradition of buying a truck for 40,000,the tradition of fixing your own truck, the ability to survive without a cell phone make tradition you will never understand.
That is our song. We're not going to change it and we're not giving it up. It has nothing to do with what players do on the field. Coaches plan and manage. Players make plays. And coach Stein is bringing in the players to get it done. Leave our history alone.
