Meanwhile, Cunningham came out publicly saying this had nothing to do with race. She committed a similar play last year against a Phoenix Mercury player and was ejected. And she said she should’ve been ejected as she was protecting a teammate.

sorry DiJonai you can’t take those words back no matter how hard you try to explain it. The league continues to look terrible. Go Sophie!

Watch any random WNBA game and the inconsistency within the game is mind boggling. She's not wrong that the refs need to get better.

That said, it's entirely absurd that she invoked race into the discussion. 100% was a flagrant 1 at least and she should own it.
Had she not gone right up to her to get in her face afterwards, maybe it would have been a 1... but her actions deserved the upgrade.

So sad that the many of the players don't realize they are hurting the league.

Still waiting for the league to handle what she said. Her explanation here and elsewhere is ridiculous.

No white player should say black privilege and no black player should say white privilege without repercussions.

The WNBA gets a literal godsend in Clark, and the league is not only showing it was totally unprepared for it(from the commissioner on down to the players), it wants to bite the hand that feeds it - or, in this case, the hand that changed its menu from ramen noodles & boxed mac n cheese to fine cuisine.

Since the popularity boom caused by Clark, all the league's problems has been magnified and amplified. It's a total shitshow. Right now, the WNBA is in the news for all the wrong reasons. It should be the complete opposite. Players need to understand that ruinous and self-ruinous behavior will not be tolerated. The league has been given new life, and players who work against that can find employment elsewhere. They are operating like it's the wild west, and that's the last thing that should be happening. Someone needs to clean things up, ASAP. These divides are only going to grow under the wrong leadership.

The league needs new leadership that is able to handle a goose that laid the golden egg. Otherwise, the whole thing is going to be squandered.

Imagine thinking the white players have it easier in the WNBA when Clark is allowed to get abused to a level never seen before and in spite of that she has the class to never bite on the racial talking points or ever refer to race as a factor (despite the fact that anyone with a brain knows it’s a huge factor against her).

The cultural difference between some of these players is stark.

The Indiana fever home attendance this year is 16,255 per game; their away game attendance is 16,500 per game.The average WNBA attendance per game is 12,532. Commissioner is obviously not good in math.

Then she comes out last week publicly stating that she is convening a “focus group” to discuss the trans issue. Really???

I don’t know who is coaching the coach, but she is flailing with this angry speech that is all backpedaling on her original comments. Some people can’t help themselves.

What she should have done:
- After Cunningham made her statement in support of young girls, either say nothing or acknowledge that every player has a voice and then STFU.
- After Carrington close lined Cunningham, support your player who was the victim of a flagrant two.

How hard is that.

I heard a guy on ms now say that now ex nba players are trying to play in the wnba. He either didnt know, or failed to say, that they were doing it (correct me if I am wrong) to prove that the wnba trans wording is ridiculously weak.

It certainly won't happen, but honestly that's a suspension-worthy take by the Sports Illustrated writer. Pathetic. What if she had been seriously injured on the play - which was a definite possibility? Would that have been karma too? Unbelievable. Sports Illustrated used to be a higher standard, but i guess that was a long time ago.

The writer of that article deserves some serious heat.

The WNBA has largely remained silent and has not announced official league disciplinary action outside of a reported $1,000 fine for Chicago Sky guard DiJonai Carrington, following her controversial "WHITE PRIVILEGE" social media post after being ejected for a hard foul on Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham.

30 years wnba not one male biological in the league. Feel there is a line between being accepting to the Trans community and that.

Exactly. The issue is dumb. It's a theoretical problem that isn't actually happening at all in professional sports.

In non professional competitive sports, some people want to accommodate for the outliers of kids who actually have gender dysmorphia and maybe have transitioned at a young age and live their lives as girls, but then you end up with people like Lia Thomas who transitioned well after puberty and go on to dominate against biological women.

Seems clear to me that the line was drawn for competitive sports because of biological differences and that is where the line should exist.

The issue is not and never was about the WNBA. If they want to allow biological males to play, have at it. The issue is about youth sports, HS and college sports and not allowing biological males to compete against and take opportunities away from females. One WNBA player said she supported keeping youth sports for females only and has gotten a ton of hate for it from players and liberal fans. Then made worse when 2 young girls who supported Sophie were harassed by adults including an owner for the crime of having a sign that said "Thank you for supporting girls".

Trans youth numbers are booming over the last several years with some estimates saying there are more than 3 million trans youth today. There needs to be a clear policy in youth, HS and college sports. Title 9 should protect them. 80-90% of Americans believe biological males should not share lockerrooms and playing fields with female youth. One player saying the same in an interview should have received support to protect girls and women from the Commissioner, Coaches and players not hate saying she is against Trans people.

Saying Trans people should only compete against their biological sex doesn't mean one is against transpeople and should not be controversial. That is the problem people have with the WNBAs reaction.

Because the entire point of their so-called "ridiculous gimmicks" is that a certain societal agenda has brought us to the point where idiocy needs to be responded to with equivalent idiocy in order to demonstrate the nature of reality for the brainwashed among us.

Duh! How could you miss that unless you are being deliberately obtuse.

This is the easiest no-brainer of an issue in the history of issues.

But again not 1 biological male in history of league existence. I feel the league and its membership should be shown grace instead of divisive culture war nonsense.

That's not the issue though. The issue is that obvious truths like the ones spoken by Sophie Cunningham should not be treated as radical. They are simple obvious statements of fact and reality.

The fact that anything she said is treated as controversial is the height of clown world. The league and commissioner should not be unambiguous on plain truths of life. This is the most a-political issue ever. Unfortunately, the league continues to demonstrate that the inmates are in control of a large portion of the asylum. Did you even read the article that was linked?

The fact that Sophie even had to make that statement shows how batshit certain elements of our society have gone. Should we also debate whether the sun rises in the east?

I mean she has a right to what her feelings and opinions are...she said protect girls and women and then was a ring girl participant for UFC where it has had fighters commit DV and also Dana White have a public incident with his wife.
Additionally she plans to have a book out soon. Perhaps she was planting a seed based on publisher advice.

She was stating facts that everyone should agree with and should not be controversial.

Not sure why you are bringing up being a ring girl. Is there something inherently hazardous to women about being a ring girl? You are really straining here and its showing. There is no controversy except by people like you who wish to make plain obvious statements of reality into news items.

So she plans to have a book. ok. I have no idea what the topic is but if its anything to do with keeping men out of women's sports, then good for her bringing light to this embarrassment of an issue in our supposedly advanced society. God knows the other side has filled entire libraries with their propaganda. Imagine a society needed a book saying women are women and should play competitive sports against other women. Maybe she can also write a sequel about the sky being blue.

“I’ve never once claimed that the assessment of the foul was white privilege (that was your assumption),” she wrote on X, while quote-tweeting the clip of Acho. “Try exercising your critical thinking skills, I know you studied psych. Furthermore, I’m the LAST thing from ignorant or asinine when it comes to speaking on ‘white privilege’, do ya research on that one. I actually went to school, one of the top universities might I add, to educate myself on this exact subject. I would never use that term as a rhetorical weapon knowing the historical and social weight it holds without having the proper evidence to substantiate it.”

Not that they are not potentially technically capable and highly skilled...see Rasmus girl on Alabama going to LLWS
