That is correct especially play them at Kinnick, at night. The hawks had Indy by the balls last year but couldnt make that first down to run the clock down to a final, probably shorter FG from the middle of the field. And Stevens having that unusual miss miss then put PParker in a bind as a FG beats you so you cant let IU get chunks but you have to blitz some to force bad plays, throw aways, or a turnover.
Could’ve easily beaten IU and Oregon Last year. With a little luck could have made a run in the playoffs. Very close. That team playing Vandy would have beaten several playoff teams, would have dusted Bama.

Don't love the last part. His "I don't care" attitude gave us the least qualified OC / QB coach I have ever seen. Criminal waste of the insane defenses we had at that time. Hate to hear "IDGAF" and then see it play out on Saturdays. Just terrible optics.

I am by no means losing my mind, I get what he is saying. But to say "I don't care about unreasonable fan expectations" is a bit of an own goal. Mostly due to seeing that sort of attitude play out on the field.

What I saw on the field with sonny boy matches that sentiment perfectly. He very clearly didn't care.
Translated to the offense, too. Example: Petras throwing the ball OOB on 4th down in Wisconsin territory during the 4th quarter in 2021.
Let's just focus on 2022, because it is the perfect representation of why that remark is a bit cringe.
For context, starting in 2017, BF's offense ranked 117th, 92nd, 99th, 88th and 121st nationally, through 2021 (103rd average out of ~130).
In 2022 his offense ranked 130th (out of 131 teams). The offense averaged 251YPG with Petras (mostly). Meanwhile, the defense was ranked #2 in the nation, allowed 271YPG and had these fellers running around: Jack Campbell, Riley Moss, Van Ness, and Cooper DeJean.
For more context the average national ranking for the defense for the same period (2017 - 2021) was 13.
Now, one could argue that those numbers should have given a head coach enough confidence to fire the OC and give the DC a massive raise. What did the guy that says "IDGAF" do instead? Gave the OC another shot in 2023.
The result? 133rd out of 133 nationally, 246YPG. The D? 7th in the nation, 282YPG with DeJean, Higgins, Castro, Logan Lee.
So, yeah, he doesn't seem to have cared about offense during his son's tenure as OC. That is clear. And that is a sad waste of so much defensive talent during those years.

No one gives a **** about 4 years ago anymore. Good lord, why are folks even still bringing this up? Brian's no longer here, we're in a better place, and a new season is about to start. There's a lot better **** to talk about than that.

JK, it is honestly fascinating how bad it really got. I am looking forward to watching TL's offense this year. The ANF pods he did were outstanding.
Then maybe enjoy that, and let go of the "Brian thing". Its over and done with. If you take his quote in context he said" they're never going to be happy unless you win the national championship, and frankly I don't care what they think anymore". Was an off the cuff comment to another old timer. Truly do you want a HC who listens to what "the fans "think. Can you imagine that scenario given some of the crazy stuff just on here from a lot of posters who wouldn't know the color of Shite if they stepped in it.

We're fans, and we DON'T pay his salary. Not sure why this always comes up. I get that people would like to see a more exciting brand of football, and they're ready to see a new regime, BUT we'll be damn lucky if we're able to win 9+ games most every year with the next HC. Not saying it can't happen, but I wouldn't be betting on it either. And for the record Kirk does not have a lifetime contract....

He's paid by the University through the athletic dept, which is a seperate entity from the Universities general fund. People get confused because they say he's "the highest paid STATE employee". The problem is he's NOT paid by the state. His contract AND his assistants (all of whom got raises) is paid almost entirely by some gate receipts and the media contracts, (the media contracts being by far the lions share), with the remainder from the apparel contract with Nike and camp fees. Its totally through the athletic dept. I guess you could say a bit of its paid by ticket buyers, but its largely by the TV contract and other endorsements.
Jack wagons like you that are DONATING TO THE AHTLETIC FUND when you buy a ticket for your entertainment. Entertainment. That is what you pay for.
Pretty sure his salary is endowed by the Moon dude who owns the truckstop. So yeah, that one guy is his customer. Except that customer just died.
Oh, okay, you got me. That's by far the smallest % of his pay, but your right, he works for you. Good Lord. By that way of thinking, his BOSS is the TV networks who pay the lions share, and then probably the Nike contract. If that works better for you then his boss is the networks.....
By that way of thinking his customers are the B1G Network, NBC, Peacock etc.. since they pay the lions share of his salary.....Sounds kind of silly calling them "his customers" don't you think? Do you suppose he should be concerned about what they think, or listening to them for ideas on coaching, since they pay the bulk of his contract?

Could it be that with BF at OC, KF was in the midst of his winningest stretch at Iowa?
And could it be that KF knew that the distinguishing factor between the '22 offense, and BF's 5 previous offenses, had almost nothing to do with BF?

It's about fans having gotten it terribly wrong.
There simply is NO justification for fan negativity to have reached its all-time high, during what at the time, was the final season ('23) of KF's winningest stretch at Iowa. NONE
