I’m not entirely positive, and feel free to correct me, oh omnipotent board, but the Mets felt that way because they were heavily invested with Bernie Madoff. His returns were too good to be true and, if I’m recalling events correctly, that’s why it’s a great deal for him and a bad deal for Mets management.I remember reading a decade ago or so an article written by a sports finance guy that actually praised the Mets and scolded Bobby Bo for this deal. They pay it off with interest income and he could have done more with a lump sum.
That's certainly part of it, but they have obviously paid their bills and met all their obligations since then. It's sort of like a lottery jackpot. Do you want the lump sum or do you want something different, almost like a trust fund? Some people are better with money than others.I’m not entirely positive, and feel free to correct me, oh omnipotent board, but the Mets felt that way because they were heavily invested with Bernie Madoff. I just remember the Wilpons lost a lot of money and had plenty of obligations. It’s probably a reason why they sold the team. That's certainly part of it, but they have obviously paid their bills and met all their obligations since then. It's sort of like a lottery jackpot. I assume that it's an electronic transfer and not a paper check!Imagine 1.19 million every year for decades for doing nothing. The **** eating grin I’d have waddling down to my mailbox in my robe and slippers Tony Soprano style
