Starts Tuesday with highs just nudging above 90 and then really gets going on Wednesday with highs climbing into the mid to upper 90s. Thursday and Friday are progged to see widespread 100 degree or more temperatures across NJ away from the coast and major cities like DC, Philly and NYC. Heat indices will reach 110 or higher those days. Saturday the 4th offers a reprieve along the coast but will still have highs in the low to mid 90s inland, a bit more clouds around with a shot at late thunderstorms.

An Extreme Heat Watch has already been issued for Wednesday through Saturday for many NJ counties

...EXTREME HEAT WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON
THROUGH SATURDAY EVENING...

* WHAT...Dangerously hot conditions with heat index values up to 110
degrees possible during the daytime hours.

* WHERE...Eastern Monmouth, Western Monmouth, Middlesex, Somerset,
Ocean, and Southeastern Burlington Counties.

* WHEN...From Wednesday afternoon through Saturday evening.

* IMPACTS...Heat related illnesses increase significantly during
extreme heat and high humidity events.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Very warm low temperatures in the mid 70s to
low 80s at night will not offer any relief from the heat. This
combined with multiple days of near record breaking temperatures
will exacerbate the impacts from the heat and humidity.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of
the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car
interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minute

I was surprised it took you so long to start a thread on this. There is no more boring weather thread on the planet than a heat wave thread. Yet you crush other posters about starting various winter weather, flood threats, etc. Boooooring….,😂

Adorable little heat wave. It’s like when it drops to 29 here in Texas. People freak! Enjoy and drink a lot!

Oh okay, because all of the local mets didn’t do that over the past several days. Worst kept secret ever! You’re pretty funny as a weather guy.😎

I see OC hitting 101 this week. That’s very unusual to see a day over 100 especially with the water being still in the low to mid 60s
The 4th is gonna be lit

I was surprised to not see dates in August 2023 there. I recall driving down the GSP in Union area and it being 115+ on the roadway.

Well it has the potential to be historic so those downplaying are showing their ignorance. A potential for 3 days of 100 plus which is quite rare last happened in july 1993

I was riding my bike in 107F weather around 2012 in metro area. My personal hottest day. Back in the 20th century, people driving the hooptie cars (with wire hanger antennaes) would be boiling over. I rarely see broken down cars with the hood up anymore but I did see it on the 107F day. My roughest period was 40+ days of over 90F in the 90s.. I would hit 287 from Palisades Parkway and the heat would really amp up once I hit the hot roads

It's kind of crazy the amount of people in Europe that die from Heat Deaths, US averages 700 to 1.200 annually.

  • 2026 (Preliminary): Over 1,300 excess deaths were reported in a single, early-summer heatwave between June 21 and June 28, 2026.
  • 2024: An estimated 62,775 heat-related deaths occurred, making it one of the deadliest summers, behind 2022.
  • 2023: Just under 48,000 heat-related deaths.
  • 2022: An estimated 61,672 to 67,873 heat-related deaths. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6]

Doesn’t look like any rain either except for a few random spots. Of course on Saturday it seems more widespread. Typical

Lack of AC in Europe. The US uses AC much more.

When it’s extremely hot AC saves lives. France and other EU countries need to let people use AC. I know they don’t like the emissions from AC but this is an opportunity for them to develop an AC unit with less emissions.
