I thought they were putting Jax on the clock. Marcus held center the whole time. I’m not expecting Marcus to open up, but that admittedly is what close matches can turn into.

57kg: Luke Lilledahl vs. Spencer Lee

Spencer Lee is quick on a shot but Lilledahl wins the scramble and gets two exposure points out of it for a 2-0 lead and then two more on the continued scramble for a 4-0 lead. Lee's corner is challenging the second two and whether Lee should have got two of his own as well. After review, it's ruled that Lilledahl gets four and Lilledahl stepped out so Lee gets one.

So the correct score is now 4-1 Lilledahl with 5:36 to go. Entertaining first 24 seconds. We're now back to action. Lilledahl gets an attention for a hand slap. Back to wrestling again, Lee shoots, Lilledahl tries to evade, and Lee ends up getting a step out to make it 4-2 with 5:00 to go. On the restart, Lee slams his head into Lilledahl's shoulder as they were working for positioning and looks incredibly dazed and confused as he stumbles backward, and the trainers are out to tend to him immediately to do a concussion check. He passes the test and the action will resume at 4:42 with Lilledahl leading Lee 4-2.

Lee shoots off the restart but it doesn't get home. He shoots again, and Lilledahl tries to counter, and it ends with neutral standing. Lee gets on a leg and is driving Lilledahl turn the edge and forces a step out to make it 4-3 at 3:55. No scoring from there.

Lilledahl leads Lee 4-3 after one.

BREAK ENDS

Lee gets in on a single early in the second and is working his way up and gets the takedown for a 5-4 lead and then two exposures for a 7-4 lead with 2:37 to go. They're neutral with 2:00 to go. Lilledahl shoots but Lee fends it off at 1:28. Lee gets a step out at :58 for an 8-4 lead. Lilldahl drops in on a single at :20 but Lee fends it off. Attention for Lee at :10. That's the match.

Lee d. Lilledahl 8-4, wins series 2-0 and makes Team USA

Freestyle is Very Frustrating to watch any match. Refs are So Inconsistent it’s Insane. Don’t even worry about it. It’s not worth your well being

You guys are stuck on stupid. They are obviously miles apart generally which is what everyone here continues to stress without acknowledging the fact that his conservative style and waiting to score at the last second is how Lewan would pull off big wins when he was outmatched...not outmatched...Lewan obviously had the skill and athleticism to beat almost anyone...he was just so risk averse he defaulted to defense until the last minute of the match. I don't think Blaze is outmatched against anyone but the risk averse nature will continue to trip him up until he opens up more. The only correct strategy when outmatched is to attempt the squeaker but I don't think that ever applies to Marcus.
We saw Okie State do a masterclass of winning the squeaker when outmatched at NCAA's. Of course one of the squeakers they won had a huge helping hand from some unnamed referee watching a monitor.

86 kilograms round two: Kyle Dake vs. Zahid Valencia (Valencia leads 1-0)

We're underway. Valencia tries a single but can't get there and then Valencia is warned for passivity at 5:15. Dake was pushing Valencia toward the edge but Valencia flips the mat around and pushes Dake out after nearly being pushed out himself. Impressive. Valencia leads 1-0 at 4:30. Dake is now warned for passivity at 4:22. After that restart, they were in neutral the rest of the way.

Valencia leads 1-0 after one.
