It sounds like they’re maligned aligned in Blacksburg.

Honeymoon phase of anything is awesome. Happy for the VT fans who are excited. But we’ve been there.

Alexis knows how this goes.

Yes, it a shame that all they have to look forward to are multiple 10 win seasons, possible playoff wins and student athletes that stay out of trouble and graduate.

I’ll take that bet.

How much did those 10 win season make your life better? Like - at the club when interacting with OSU alums, how awesome was it to say your school had 10 wins?

Good coach is why he got the job at Va Tech
Good coach is most likely why he didn't get a job at LSU, Florida, Auburn, etc.
Franklin had much less trouble finding a job than PSU did finding his replacement.

But PSU is experiencing "excellence at the highest level" and "the national championship our fans deserve."

Always be careful saying something like this. The kids Franklin recruited are little different than kids recruited all over the country, so the whole staying out of trouble thing is BS and something Franklin either has little control over or doesn't care so much about as long as players can play. Take you pick Did you ever read about what happened at Vandy in Franklins last year, or lets not forget about Keveion Keys and Jameial Lyons at PSU? Yes, those are the kind of guys Franklin was bringing into his football program.

Didn't Iowa State have a starting QB and others in a gambling scandal?

Franklin is a good football coach. He won a lot of games at PSU. He won big bowl games. He did well in the playoffs in 2024. He upgraded facilities and staffing at PSU. He recruited well. He was a good representative of the school. He also had his weaknesses, like everyone does. He couldn't beat OSU, which will eventually get you fired at Michigan. PSU chose to go in another direction. I supported Franklin while he was the coach PSU. I now support Campbell. I am an alum of PSU, and that's where my allegiance is. I hope PSU can build on the success that Franklin had. If they can, it will be pretty good because Franklin did good things at PSU.

I don't believe Franklin or Campbell intentionally recruit kids with noticeable questionable character. Those young men understood the guidelines at PSU and ISU; they chose to violate those guidelines.

This is part of the $229.2 million VPI announced it would raise in support of athletics. Why couldn't they simply round the amount up to $230 million? Probably like asking to squeeze water from a stone.

BGJ is very good at repeating mistakes from his past. First is his tendency to overpromise and underdeliver.

During the VT Spring Game Franklin grabbed the microphone and addressed the massive crowd in Lane Stadium, vowing that the team is going to "shock the world together". Very reminiscent of his statement at PSU "The reality is that we have gone from an average... to a great football team."

My point was you might want to stay away from general statements about how good the kids are any coach recruits. Its a violent sport in my years of following it. A lot of players have violent tendencies that in many cases they may hide very well. There was this guy named OJ Simpson.

I don't think Paterno recruited kids with questionable character, yet its obvious some get through. Paterno still had Todd Hodne and Levon Chisley on his rosters. They both probably deserved the death penealty, if you believe in it.

Most decent coaches could get 10 wins in the ACC coaching a decent program. The talent level with the exception of a couple teams is not even close to the Big Ten or SEC. But no matter I expect Franklin to do well just not as well as some think.

Looks like the same m.o. with James ...... pointing the finger at what's wrong and needs to be fixed with the program! But poor coaching has nothing to do with winning ......

Thank you for what I consider to be the best paragraph I have read here in months.
I'd like to add one thing. I hope none of us ever witness the behavior of some fans (at Beaver) that occurred at the end of the Northwestern game. I don't care if the coach is Matt Campbell or Joe Doakes.
Wishing James Franklin success at Virginia Tech is not counter intuitive to being a PSU fan. No matter how much success he has at VT, he isn't being invited back to coach PSU. In addition, Kraft did not fire Franklin because he wanted to hire Campbell. Hell, Kraft didn't even have his phone number(I've got a bridge for sale).
PSU should ball out this year (I'm concerned after that) and Franklin will struggle to reach a bowl game. If all here were being honest, it might be 3 or 4 years till we know if each school made a wise decision.
In the meantime, It's apparent that Franklin has generated an incredible buzz at VT.

There are coaches who recruit on the margins. Matt Campbell nor James Franklin are not, never have been or never will be among them.

Penn State @ Michigan isn't a big game? 🤷‍♀️
MIchigan has lost 8 or 9 games the past 2 seasons. They too have a new coach and are in transition. They are predicted to win 8.5 games...meaning most feel they will be 9-3, 8-4. Any way you slice it, they are not Ohio State or Oregon.....or even recent Indiana. In summary, If CJF were the coach, haters like you would frame the game in this manner...."if he can't beat this Michigan team, then when?"
